So I have always had trouble with my 10/22 since day one it’s a stainless and synthetic with the metal trigger group. I put a target hammer in it the other day and I am finding that my bolt binds at the end of the stroke right before its starts to head back to pick up the next round. It was bad before but now I find the bolt sticks open sometimes I have taken some material off the hammer but it is now at the point where I would have to take a large amount of to make it stop binding. Does anyone have this problem and if so has anyone found a solution to this issue?

Not 100% sure this will fix your problem, but have you radiused the bolt? There's tip on how too in the rimfire section as well as rimfirecentral.com

Its more likely binding on the top of the trigger housing. I had that happen. I polished the top of the trigger housing (down to the Al) and it fixed it.

4 other things to check are:

  • Make sure your scope rail screws are not turned in too far pushing down on the bolt
  • Check to make sure your charging handle is sitting flush in your bolt
  • Make sure your bolt release is sitting in your trigger housing correctly. If the "arm" sits to high (above the lip of the trigger housing) it will push up on your bolt and cause things to bind inside.
  • Make sure the "C" clip on the end of your hammer strut is turned down when you re-installed it.

Good luck!

My bolt was binding, and I found the problem to be the new Volquartsen Match Hammer was machined a lot different, which caused the binding by hitting the reciever. I had to grind it out with a dremel.

New hammer.
