hello everyone, i have a question regarding the 10/22 bolt. i just managed to punch the firing pin retaining pin (which is actually a rolled sheet of metal) out of the bolt. it took a ridiculous amount of forceful blows with a hammer to get it out. it seems that its just too large in diameter for the hole in the bolt. its hell getting in out and getting it back in. should i try and file it down some to reduce the diameter? or is that a bad idea? any input would be greatly appreciated. thx a lot guys!!

yeah, i've had the rifle for a while now, and have never taken the firing pin out. and now that i finally have...it was disgustingly filthy. i was scooping the crap out of the firing pin channel. i'm just pissed that its so freaking hard to get out, it just cant be right.

The first time is always the hardest. After that it should be alot easier. If it is still hell to get in and out, I would take some sand paper and gently take a little off. I did it with one of mine and it worked fine.

Any time i get a dirty gun like that,i take it apart, stick the pieces in the vice and hit them with a pressure washer...i guess it's useless info at this point..but maybe for next time ;)

yeah i think i'll give it a brief sanddown next time. the pressure washer idea would work too i suppose...if i had one, and if i was willing to do that in the cramped garage. ah well....sandpaper it is. thanks a lot people.
