Hope someone can help me out. A friend has a 10/22, the firing pin seems to drop to low about 1 out of 8 shots... The firing pin rides in a grove, there are two punch marks that seem to be there to hold the pin down...They are not doing their job, the pin can be moved by hand, when you look at the bolt face the pin doesn't line up with the rim of the cartrige...somewhere near the edge. I'll try to get some pic's today...it's kinda hard to describe.

Does anyone think I can just punch the marks again driving them deeper? Will Ruger warrentee it? ... before I punch it of course :)

Anyone had this problem before?

Thanks in advance

Nic

When Rhineland were dealing with non firing guns, it was mentioned that this was a common problem with the Ruger bolts.

Some seem to cross drill the bolt and install a pin across the top of the firing pin to limit it's travel to straight forwards and back.

Bolt pinning

That's what CPC is doing as well. Works good...
------------------------------------
CPC 10/22 L.R. Bolt Combo... Bolt is diassembled, cleaned and polished... Headspace is surface ground and squared to a .0425 rim depth, the same as a bolt action rifle too tweek in alittle accuracy... A hole is "E.D.M.'ed", a hardened ground solid dowel pin is pressed in over the top of the front of the firing pin... This new dowel pin keeps the front of firing pin from raising up and causing flyers and gives more consistant firing pin strikes... Rear / bottom of bolt body is radiused for smoother bolt function with standard velocity ammo... The seen outside of bolt is beautifully prism jeweled as a finishing touch...

I actually just got my bolt from PCP. The dowell is not through the firing pin, it rides on top.

I will post a pic of it later tonight. The jewelling is absolutely beautiful.

I had one doing just this so I wrote to Ruger directly and asked if they'd send me a new pin. They sent me the complete bolt assembly for free, no problems since. I like my Rugers.

I pinned my own bolt. If you know how to use a drill press and drill accurate holes, it is easy. You will need is a solid carbide 1/16" drill bit and 1/16" roll pin. Cobalt bits doesn't like to drill Ruger bolts. They are hard as hell....check rimfirecentral for more info on doing this mod as well as a number of others to accurise the 10-22...
