10/22: Compare carbine and compact models, please

I'm interested in getting one of these, but I can't tell much of the difference aside from what is obvious from the website: Barrel length, length of pull, and barrel band.

Can anyone give me more detail on a side-by-side comparison?

The sights look a tad different. Which did you prefer? All other parts are the same? Fit and finish is the same? Any difference in the wood?

Hmmmm? My last one wasn't?
They both had the same sights (carbine & compact) and I bought the compact new in box from Bass Pro?
Receiver is the same, Trigger Group/Housing is the same, Bolt is the same.
Fit and finish were both acceptable.
My personal preference would be the compact though.
I just liked the feel of it better....

Not on mine, I also have the Hogue stock version.

The only difference I can find is the shorter barrel. I own one of each.

Unless you are using quality iron sights and can benefit from a longer sight plane, barrel length has no effect on accuracy. I suspect that the factory sights are not of sufficient quality to reveal a difference based on sighting plane.

If you're trying for precision, then the fit and LOP might make a difference. My bolt 22 is a youth model and it's great now that I'm used to it (and I've got long arms). Much handier, nice in thick brush, and shoulders quicker. It makes it much easier for kids and small-statured adults to use, too. And it's great for use in the winter when you've got tons of layers on! But it is certainly no precision rig...
