does any one make a barrel to fit the 10/22 in 17 mach2 or would this even work. i would think that the shells should feed ok in the clip may just need some tweeking with the springs for the blowback of the bolt

thanks i found one barrel kit through magnum reasearch, its very exspensive because its a carbon barrel do you know of anyone else selling steel barrels

Volquartsen, Green Mountain, ER Shaw, Magnum Research, and a whole slew of others make .17HM2 barrels for the 10/22 - so your biggest problem will be figuring out how much $ to spend ;)

My recipe for the conversion came from a mix of several different ideas
after reading LOTS of posts on rimfirecentral - basically what
I ended up doing was the following:

- Modify a 10/22 magnum cocking handle assembly by turning it down to standard 10/22 length
while keeping the magnum spring on it.

- Purchase & install a power custom extra power hammer spring

- Machine a new Stainless bolt handle & mate it to existing cocking handle
(increases bolt weight by approx 1.6 ounces)

- Install new urethane bolt buffer

Now just as a disclaimer: my rifle is still a work in progress I've had
2 casehead failures during the early testing of my conversion. However this
was in the field hunting gophers, the main problem with the .17 Mach II I've found
is you need to be more attentive to cleaning it then with a .22LR- the failures I experienced
came after firing 40-50 rounds without cleaning.

Running a dry patch through it every 10-20 rounds helps prevent any issues - I haven't experienced a
blown out case since. The S/S bolt handle is a new addition as well, I'm figuring the extra
weight will be an added safety buffer in the event of a string of rapid fire at some poor varmint's head :D

Gm doesn't make a .17hm2 that I know of. Look on boydes (sp?) website and check for there conversion kits for the 10/22 to .17hm2. They were selling some a while ago but I am not sure if they are still for sale. Another one that I would look at getting is the E R shaw barrels. They seem to have a good repuation. You may also have to get a different bolt, and or some different parts for the bolt.

I wanted a 17 mach2 but I couldn't find anyone who sold ammo.:( Where do you guys get your ammo and how much do you pay?

Availability for .17hm2 ammo can be hard to find. I think the price for it is about $8 or $9 for 50, but don't quote that. Look around a bit more and you should find it, unless you want to mail order it but taht would be preatty expensive for shipping.

My conversion consisted of, first spending a lot of time reading as many posts from as many forums and sites as I could. I tried to do as much as possible on my own (cheap). I had a standard barrel sitting around so I sent it to Elwood Epps in Ontario for relining. Cost 150.00 plus shipping. I bought a magnum cocking lever assembly from midway for 6.00. I cut the magnum lever down to the correct length and then welded and addition onto the handle to add weight and size. I used the magnum spring for more resistance. Not much else was done except for some of the standard bolt mods, champher the rear of the bolt, truing the face, pinning the firing pin and adding my own nylon buffer.
I was surprised at how well everything went together and when I test fired the gun out in the garage for the first time IT WORKED!! I had no case splits or buldged heads.
I have only fired 50 rounds thru it so far and every one worked, no feed problems or failure to eject.
I made the mistake of not taking pictures as I went along but here are some of the completed gun.
