10/22 Dlask bull barrel fitting issue

Hi all,

I have read that a new 10/22 bull barrel should fit tight/snug in to the receiver (stock Ruger receiver). Removing the stock barrel was difficult but with some finesse it pulled free.
Putting the new Dlask bull barrel (12.5" stainless) in was easy. In fact it has some wiggle room. I found this odd so, I went to see if maybe I had made the receiver hole bigger when I removed the stock barrel by putting the stock barrel back in and it was a snug/tight fit, no wiggle room at all.
Does anyone know the diameter measurements of the Dlask barrel, the part that fits in to the receiver?
I bought the adjustable vblock and when I install it there is no wiggle with the bull barrel at all, but I am concerned about barrel droop if I float it. Any thoughts to this concern?
Is this a return to Dlask issue for a new barrel?
If anyone can speak to these issues or give some advice I would greatly appreciate it.

Cheers

Ya I would Phone Dlask. I have bought a few flask barrels and i have had to put them in the freezer and they were still a really tight fit. The one you have might just be machined out of spec like you suspect. All my barrels are tight in a receiver or else i would measure one up for you.

Contacted Dlask and they requested I send both my receiver and the bull barrel to them.
If the barrel is in fact out of whack they will fit a new barrel to my receiver for me.

Great service there I have had nothing but prompt, pleasant interactions.
If they find that the barrel is fine then I will have a $280 paper weight, because I will just put the tight fitting stock barrel back in. That is until I can get a new receiver that hopefully has a smaller barrel hole... hopefully.

hey, isn't that great customer service. nice to hear.....

ya i was gonna say Dlask barrels are usually cut extra big so you have a hell of a time getting them in but ya need that tight fit for good accuracy.
i have yet to see a 'tight fit stock ruger 10/22' so im very surprised your was..... out of curiosity your sure your gun wasnt a RIA?

Definitely a Ruger 10/22, bought her brand new almost two years ago. Have slowly been upgrading it since.
I have heard the Dlask barrels are milled to be bigger so I am very surprised it was loose since the stock Ruger barrel was so snug.
I sent the receiver, with bolt assembly and barrel yesterday. I'll keep everyone posted on what I hear from Dlask. They are great people for having a look for me.

No one has mentioned it yet. Since you didn't explain in your post I thought I'd mention and maybe you did this but the freezer and pot of boiling water really helps things when your installing or removing the barrel. Put the action and barrel in the freezer and then pour boiling water over the receiver not the barrel when removing and the new barrel goes in the freezer and you heat up the action when installing usually with boiling water. May be redundant advice but thought I'd throw it out there. This obs isn't your problem with the new barrel but yea just thought I'd say something

I got word from Leigh at Dlask on Monday that my stock Ruger receiver bore was milled too big.
He progressed to let me know refund details, but I told him it's not there fault at all... soooooooooo, I ordered a Dlask receiver hahaha. They installed everything for me and shipped it yesterday (Tuesday). I can't wait for Canada post to get here.
I can't say enough positive about the service I received from Dlask, especially Melada and Leigh. If you are thinking of ordering anything from them please go ahead and do so!
I'll post a pic of everything set up when it gets here.

youve entered a dangerous place my friend......

now youve seen how easy it is to get stuff to build your own and once you see how much nicer the Dlask stuff is your gonna be hooked and making a new one every couple years.

..... maybe a shorty for gophers?
.... maybe a long one for bench shooting?
.... maybe a mid length bush one for at camp?

ask me how I know!

Got it today!
Dlask installed the barrel to my new receiver for me and it is tight! I would really have to horse it to move it.
I can't believe the improved tolerances on this receiver. My trigger assembly is really snug in there. I had to shave a bit of my trigger housing in two spots just for it to fit. I'm very impressed.

Love the stock, so modular it fits like a glove. Really wish it came with the cheek risers, but at least they are available. I think every big Canadian guy will need it on this set up.
Details in the 10/22 show off thread.
I'm glad you guys are enjoying the gun #### haha.
Of course pm or comment for more details.
