I have a new Green Mountain barrel on my 10/22 along with a number of other "goodiës" one of which is a Volquartson Extractor. My problem is that the last round will not extract from the chamber unless I fire it off. I've even put a fired case in the breach and tried to extract it with no luck. Does anyone have any ideas as to the cause and/or the cure:confused:

Have you read the side of your Green Mountain barrel. The last one I installed for a friend read: " Live rounds may not extract"
As long as you fire off the round, it should extract no prob, granted your chamber isn't excessively dirty. He starts getting extraction issues with cheap ammo at approx the 500 rd mark. Cleaning the bore eliminates the problem for another approx 500 rds. These barrels have tight chambers and throats that provide greater consistency and accuracy, but this is one of the prices you pay for that greater accuracy.....

So what happens in the event of a misfire? Could you still extract the round by hand?

This is common with aftermarket barrels.
If you want to be able to extract unfired rounds from a match chamber you need an aftermarket extractor, like the VQ exact edge extractor.
