I am planning on going out to the range tomorrow and I remember reading somwhere that CCI Stingers are not best for all guns and actions. My question is, is the basic 10/22 with a drum mag able to feed the Stingers?

Thanks in advance.

It will feed them no trouble, but they are fairly strong little rounds and I have seen first hand, them blow the extrator right out of the bolt onto the table.

I think it's more a matter of WHEN it will happen not IF!!!

I've also heard that Stingers shouldn't be used in 10/22s, but have never really heard a reason why. I've used Stingers in my 10/22 almost exclusively for 10 or 15 years and they haven't caused me any problems. OK.... I don't shoot it everyday or anything, but there are literally thousands of Stingers through my Ruger, with no apparent problems to date.

stingers have a longer then factory spec brass.... so the brass gets crushed into a match or bentz chamber and could cause overpressure.

out of a standard ruger barrel or a tactical soloutions barrel stingers will work fine, the only real problem is when you switch to a ruger 10/22T or install a GM or other aftermarket barrel/ (except the Tac-Sol)

Yep. Stinger issues are only for match chambers. The Ruger manual cautions against using stingers in it's TARGET models, says nothing about standard versions. In most 10/22's stingers work just fine.

From what I've read there is no reason to use them. Velocitors are more accurate and carry more energy at 100 yards than the Stingers if I remember correctly. Your mileage may vary though.

I've never had a problem with them in either of my stock 10/22 barrels. You can really hear the bolt smack the bolts stop though. I would recommend a bolt buffer if your planning on shooting allot of Stingers or Velositators. Voltsquarsen sells them for $10.

Definatly try the assortment of ammo suggestion and see what your gun likes to eat. The Stingers a nice hunting round, but their not that accurate in my rifle.

the answer is right in the manual for the 10/22. it says not to shoot stingers.

It only says not to shoot stingers in the target model due to a bentz type chamber.

Cheack page 15 of the online manual and note that right above the warning there is the statement.

NOTE: the following warning applies to Ruger 10/22 target models only.

I've put quit a few through my carbine and found them not very accurate. No misfeeds or ejection problems were present. The have noticably more recoil and I would definately recomend a bolt buffer before shooting.

^ Best bet - buy a bunch of different types, try 'em, and see. I put little faith in hearsay Internet reports
Do a search on Rimfire Central regarding Stingers and you won't find many who like them.

i blew the extracter out of a stock 10 22 with stingers, less than a box full. have shot velociters with no problems. i believe the stingers are a little longer and maybe chamber size varies with different 10 22's.

did the case rupture when it blew the extractor out? I know on my ruger 10/22 before I adjusted the headspace, there was a light bulge ahead of the rim, you could see that that part of the case was unsuported. I should of kept a few fired shells for pictures. I didn't like the stingers, they shot alright, but never did the damage that say yellow jackets did, But now I use winchester power point 40grain hp, good expansion, good accuracy, never had a missfire in 3000rds.

Nice pics. I may have to try those Power Points as I'm trying to only shoot copper washed or plated ammo.

............My 10/22 loved stingers and so does my AR-7 Henry Survival. Here is what the box stock 10/22 did with stingers. Left hand target is 25 yards and right hand is 50 yards.
