Is the front sight band held on by silver solder to the barrel? I want to remove mine but I'm wondering how much hassle its going to be.

Why would you want to remove it? I believe it's soldered on, but I can't figure out why you want it off.

You'd be better off scrapping the garbage barrel it comes with and buying a Green Mountain/Whistlepig/VQ/whatever barrel. They don't come with front sights.
 
Have a plan and ain't worried about the bluing, :cool: May need to buy a new barrel if it doesn't work out. I thot I saw a guy on the EE selling new 10/22 factory barrels for $35.
 
I thought they were drifted in, heard of people pounding them out with a brass punch (so you don't mark up the barrel) and a hammer. I just can't remember which way it fits in the dovetail, either left or right lol
