I went to the range today for the first time , everything my went good with
my .17hmr bolt action , but when using my rugar 10/22 it got jammed every 3 rounds or so , Its bran new and only got through 5 rounds before i gave up
(2 jams) , im using TI 25 round mags , with cheap Federal ammo ,
Now i have a round stuck in the breach and im not sure if the firing pin stuck it or not , Is it safe to pull it out with needle nose even if it was hit?
Im guessing by reading up a bit more i should have oiled and cleaned it before
using it , but any input on these questions would be great before i goto
the gunsmith , or mabye save me the trip!
Thanks in advance....

Welcome to 10/22s. They are known to jam with the factory extractor. The aftermarket 25 round mag doesn't help either. Pick up a Volquartsen extractor, and replace the bolt buffer while you're at it.

There's a sticky at the top of the Rimfire forum that'll help.

Relax ! Did you clean and lub the gun before shooting? try some heavier bullet ammo like Winchester dyna point or Remington thunder bolt. Any 40gr high velocity should work. My EX 10-22 has all kind of different problems. Nothing new.

go to the store buy one brick of anything high velocity they have for cheap and let her rip. You need at least 500 rnds before its broken in.

You give up pretty quick. Get some GOOD ammo, and have at'er. I know the cheap stuff is tempting, but when problems with cheap stuff arise, it's usually not productive to blame the gun. First time I had mine out, it gave me a bit of attitude, too. Especially with the butler creek hot lips 25 rounder. But I stick with it, it's still too new to say anything bad about it.

first off,get that round out of the chamber.use a small screwdriver to gently pry the round out using the "extractor groove" cut into the barrel.
next,do a basic "field strip" of your 10/22 and clean and oil it.invest in a "bolt buffer" and buy some CCI BRAND ammo either mini-mags or stingers.
the 10/22 is a great gun and if you do get tired of it, it will sell real quick on the equipment exchange.also, use the factory 10 round mag at first until you get the feel of the gun.the T.I. mags require some adjustment.

Okay, quick query - is it better to buy the mods first (VQ extractor, bolt release, ext. mag release, etc.) before the TI mags, or after? In an imperfect world, where I have to do it one at a time. ;)
