Well I'm finally happy with the way I've got my 10/22. I forget the exact costs of the components which include:

-Tech sights (best purchase EVER - about $60ish)
-Muzzle brake (about $10ish)
-Fiberforce stock ($35ish)
-TI mags ($forget?)
-Standard 10/22 blued/wood

The cost for everything was well within the lower total which I wished to spend. You'll notice I haven't purchased the usual internals such as edge extractor, buffer, mag release; this is because my rifle has functioned absolutely perfectly so far without the need of the added expense; although I'm sure I will end up with the extended mag release and buffer soon.

Many people have commented that they think the ATI fiberforce stock is a p.o.s. and doesn't work with iron sights. I found the fit and finish to be just fine (especially for $35) and I plan on primering/texturizing/painting it soon anyway. The cheek weld is perfect for use with the Tech Sights.

I chose Tech Sights originally to be a bit different from all the red dots out there, I never guessed at how much fun and how accurate they are - I highly recommend them.

The final appearance kind of looks like the new Russain AN-94 IMO.

Anyway, here are a couple of pics (the plastic appears to have a lot of sheen with the harsh flash of my crappy camera, it is completely flat in person).

I thought the tech sights and Muzzle brake won't work together? Whoever told me that appears to be a liar!

Looks good, I also like the second pic, the TI magazine makes it perfect.

looks kinda like mine:D I just ordered a stainless 11.5in threaded barrel for mine, should be getting it any day now.

Yes, I had originally thought that too. As the Tech Sights were more important to me I got them first, then realized they occupy the exact same footprint as the original blade sight so no problem with the brake. They seem to look well suited with each other too...

Question.
To upgrade everything to get a 10-22 to look like a black rifle do you need a bull barrel, or will a carbine barrel work? I just bought my first 10-22 and have some projects in mind and am wondering what kind of barrels I will need.
And can I get them in Canada?

It's really up too you. Bull barrel will shrink your groups. If it's an AR type, off hand shooter, a sport barrel is fine. If you want a tack driver with bipod and high powered scope, I'd go with a bull barrel. It's really what you think will look good and what you want out of the rifle. And what your willing to spend.

Sweet. Thanks for the pics. That is one nice looking rifle. :)

I have the same stock, but I have a Marlin 795 in mine. The only real downside of the 795 compared to the 10/22 is that I can't get aftermarket barrels or hi-cap mags. I wonder if it'd be possible to take a 10/22 barrel and modify it to allow it to fit a Marlin.....?

Here are a couple of pics with and without scope.

Yah that Marlin is really nice, looks good with and without the scope.

On a side note, I'm thinking of doing some work on the stock tomorrow; sanding any rough mold seams and painting it with Krylon camo ultra flat black, it should take away that cheapish plastic sheen while retaining the black look.

That's a good idea. I may do the same to mine sometime in the near future. It's too bad they couldn't have sanded or roughed up the mould itself so the finished product had some texture to it. That would have taken away the cheap plastic look it has.

Oh well, like you said, some flat black paint ought to fix that up. :)

Does anyone know if these stocks can be modified to accept bull barrels? I might be getting a 10/22 that already has a bull barrel and I'm trying to decide which stock to use with it.

The Choate dragunov style stock comes in regular barrel or bull barell forms. The one that accepts the bull barrel doesn't come with an upper handgaurd (barrell shroud).

From what I understand the Choate drag stock is of better quality than the ATI one, although a tad different. Google it for pictures, I think you can order it from Milarm in Alberta.
