Hi all,
I have a new ruger 10/22 krinker kit that really hates extracting! To be clear about the problem...the spent shells DO NOT CLEAR THE ACTION. It is a great over all little gun otherwise. I have tested the mags (Butler 25rds) with my other Stainless 10/22 and they are great. I want this gun for pure rapid fire and it jams (Stove pipe) every few rounds no matter the pace of fire. Its super clean, I even tried it dirty...then fouled! It is very very inconsistant except for the jamming. Feeding is not ever an issue and I have tried every kind of ammo from Win. White box, blazer, to CCI mini mags and match grade $$$ stuff. Nothing helps! This gun was built on a 'new Ruger' action and trigger group. The only alterations are a 'Clark' mag release, VQ bolt release, and a bit of trigger work.

Any and all suggestions are very welcome as I am no gun smith. My only thought is get a VQ extracter...Some buddys told me to sell it but I'll be damned before I sell a lemon to someone without them knowing it...That's just an A$$hole move IMHO.

Thanks guys and have a great weekend!

Just for ####s and giggles, swap bolts with the other 10/22 and see if that helps.

Most 10/22 gripes are extractor or ejector/mag problems. You say the mags feed and the stainless 10/22 works fine. Swap in the bolt and see if the problem lies there.

Great advice...BUT I have no idea, or the facilities to do that. But I will start a list of these comments and get my smith to try it out. I have to say WHEN the gun works it sure is accurate outta the box. CS did a good job on the kit!

Thats what I am thinking. I have heard the 'new' 10/22s are having extracter probs all the time. Its no AR/Sigarms but a good ejection is not unreasonable in my books! At very least the odd jam. How well does yours (VQ) work? As I mentioned before this kit is mostly for rapid fire as my other is the little hunting gun.

Thanks guys...

It is rather simple to disassemble a 10/22. If you can change a flat tire you should be able to rip that baby apart.

I agree with the two sugestion above, try swaping the bolt from another 10/22, and a VQ extractor (from hawktech or rimfire sports) wouldn't hurt.

look for my disassembly chart in the 10/22 tips n tricks sticky and go at 'er... if you encounter any problems you can always ask us for help.

don't worry about having to live with the problem, there's always a fix for a 10/22 ;)

One thing that can cause stovepipes is the hammer spring assembly. When you disassemble the rifle make sure to note the slot on the retaining washer. This slot mustpoint upwards.

If you look on RFC this comes up a lot. I don't understand why this works but it did for me.
