10/22 Mag Advice

TI are the best IMHO but that being said I think the Shooters Ridge 30 and compact 50 that I have been testing lately are really good also I just haven't used them enough yet to give them a total thumbs up. As for suppliers, you can't go wrong dealing with Jerry @ Mystic Precision

Hey Guys,

I have 2 BC 25 round steel lips mags that work excellent. But I am always a sucker for trying something different, so I got a 50 round teardrop shaped magazine made by MWG. I got it from rimfire sports. It was expensive, $85 US, but hey the shipping was free!!:) Anyhow it didn't work very well until I got about 100 rounds through it, now it functions flawless and is the most reliable mag I have other than the factory 10 shot. It reloads different than any other mag I have seen but once you've done it a few times, you get pretty quick at it. Plus with the MWG and the 2 BC clips, its 100 rounds between reloading. Lots of fun!!:D

I have 4 BC "hot lip" (plastic) that I have owned since 1996. Never had a problem with them. I have seen a lot of probs with the steel lips everyone raves about. Crap plastic will always be better than crap metal.

i only use factory 10 rounders now, my old 10/22 worked ok with the steel lips, but my new one hasn't functioned well at all with banana mags.

btw, has anyone ever seen a magpul for ruger 10/22 factory mags, those would be so sweet, as that's the only down side i find with the factory mags, some tend to stick more than others and it makes for slow reloads.

hey now, something like this:)

I can offer all mags from BC, Promag and Shooters Ridge.

Be warned, a mag that may work in one 10/22, may not work in another. Ruger has changed their castings over the years, and the slight changes in magwell do affect the fit and function of mags.

I have used a BC hotlips for years and thousands of rds with zero issue. My bolt does not touch the lips. But we hear of these being torn up in other 10/22s.

I have been using the promag 32rd mag with steel lips and have tested this mag in 10 other 10/22's that have been at the range. Worked great in all. Needed a break in period but now runs like a champ.

Some are having good luck with the Shooters Ridge 50's (essentially a Ramline spring design with a poly feed lips). My bolt rubs on the feed lip.

Same goes for the Promag drums. For some, it runs like a dream. For others, not so much.

Ironically, the TC mag has been one of the most finicky mags in my rifle but many others seem to love it.

So this is not a recommendation or condemnation of a product. Just beware that all mags don't work in all rifles and there simply is no way to know what will. Also, most every mag will run better with a hard copper plated high velocity ammo.

If running a shorter barrel, consider a hyper velocity ammo. I have been using Win 333 with excellent results vs my past choice of Fed HV bulk. The extra zip of the 333 ensures proper cycling in my short barrel 10/22.

Please check out my website for other 10/22 and rifle products.

What would you say is the best mag you sell? Not including BC. I need a whole bunch of mags, not sure whether to buy 30\32s or 50s...

Of the 'new' mags I have tested, the Promag 32rd has proven the most reliable in the widest range of actions.

The 50's are definitely hit and miss.

The smaller cap mags like the BC's tend to work great too.

Send me a PM and we can get you some mags.

i wish they would make an in-between mag size to reduce the curve. 18-20 rounds. 10/22s have been out so long that i'm actually surprised at the relative low level of options. I find myself rigging up a lot of things that i would have assumed would be manufactured by someone

is it still possible to get the Tactical Innovations mags?

i've currently got a Ramline (aka Jamline to some) 25 round mag. it's been really good. it'll feed any ammo i give it, and it rarely if ever jams. it'll only jam after about 2000 rounds without a cleaning.

I have a BC plastic lips one.....the follower is messed up already....didn't even use it that long.

dont forget they have a lifetime warranty, take them back and get an exchange!

i did that at italian sporting goods a while back, they made a bit of a stink but eventally made good
