I've been dragging my heels on this, but fall is coming so there will be less fishing an more shooting~need to be ready. :)

I love my bolt action rifles (.22/.17 HMR) but did pick-up a 10/22 two years ago and enjoy shooting it once in a while. Other than a bolt buffer and a nice red dot, it's a stock gun. I'm no fan of junky accessories for 10/22s, but there are a few things on the wish list that I think would really improve the shooting experience. Wondering who has what, what they like the best, best place to get, etc. I apologize if this has been covered dozens of times....

1.Extended mag release~what's best? Plastic OK, or should I be getting something metal? Easy to install for a knucklehead like me?

2.Charging handle~the stock one sucks about as much as the old-style mag release does, especially if you have big fingers like I do. Something cylindrical (not hook shaped) and matte-black would be good. (my Ruger is an "RB" model...needs to match.)

3.Not sure what they're called, but I've seen these triangular clips that hold 3 rotary magazines. Anyone use these?

Thanks for taking a moment to respond, I'll post a photo or two when I get it together.

Rob

Try rimfiresports.com for the mag release and bolt handle upgrades. Great service, free shipping to Canada.

I have one of the tri-mag adapters and love it! Search the EE in parts for 'tri-mag adapter', forget the fellows name (saddletramp??) but he has them. They work great...:D

You didn't mention the tractor-clutch stock trigger, which is the worst part of a 10/22. If you're willing to spend $200, the easiest mod is a Volquartsen TG2000 trigger assembly (also available from Rimfire Sports.) This takes about two minutes to swap out and gives you a crisp, 2.5 lb trigger, auto bolt release and extended mag release, all in a precisely engineered housing.

The internal parts are available separately for somewhat less than half that price but require disassembling the trigger module. So this is the easy way to go if you're not into amateur gunsmithery. The other advantage is that if you ever sell the gun you can easily replace the original trigger assembly and use the VQ in another rifle, or sell it separately for almost original price.

If you install an extended magazine release, be sure to install one of the pull & release hold open devices as well. The extended mag. release makes the factory hold open even more awkward to use.

I've been using one of these mag releases for awhile and find them VERY comfortable & easy to use.
It only takes a flick of your baby finger to work the release and out pop's your mag!
Install was super easy!! (under a couple minutes)

I feel the same as you when it comes to flashy extras. My 1022 is stock, but I wish I had put the plastic extended mag release and auto bolt drop on the rifle years ago. It's now a pleasure to shoot and doesn't baffle newbies!
