Hi folks,

tried my newly installed Archangel nomad kit on my 10-22 this week end and something bugged me, the 25rds magazine that comes with the kit would clip and feed properly but I am able to remove it without depressing the magazine release on the rifle. I can push the mag forward and it would clip out.

hope that you can understand what I'm saying, otherwise I'll make a video.

Is that normal, did that happen to any of you with other high cap magazines ?

I want to get more mags but I won't invest 35$ a piece for crapazines

also, it is the generation with metal pins on the magazine not the plastic one.

cheers

Hey
I only have the buttler creek mags and can not remove them unless I press the release.
I would email the manufacture and ask as it may be a defect in that kit....always one
sorry I couldn't help more
Glenn.

mine did the same, but only with the sleeve on. Its from not seating in the circular indent in the mag release-catchy-thingie.

Pull the action out and see if the magazine will lock in place correctly outside the stock. If it does then the mag itself is fine. Put the action back in the stock and try again. If it still doesn't lock in place check around the magazine well for spots where it's rubbing or contacting the mag and trim away a little of the plastic.

If you have trouble finding the points where it's rubbing use a small strip of printer paper. This bit of paper should be able to fit between the stock and the mag all the way around. If it jams at some point slightly trim the stock at that point and try again. Just keep putting the mag in and trying that paper fit. Once you have that little gap all the way around it should snap into lock just fine.

Now if the mag won't lock into place in the action while it's out of the gun then the problem is with the mag. You have two choices. You can send the mag back for another one. Or you can lightly file or sand the mag edges where they contact the action until it fits up a touch higher in the rear and locks into place. If you go with this method it is NOT time for a Dremel. You only need to remove a very little bit of plastic. And likely it's only a burr or a slight distortion that caused a sort of wave or lump in the plastic that is the problem. A close inspection will more than likely show you the bump that is producing the problem. I'm a fan of using a metal work file to dress down such things. It gives you good control and a flat surface to work with. Work it off a little at a time since it's likely only about a paper thickness of plastic that is causing the issue. And you don't want to go too far and make the magazine wobbly when locked in. When you're this close almost any amount is enough. So "work small" and test fit often.

In particular seat the mag and use a ruler laid alongside the action and sight between the ruler and the magazine. If there's a lump on one side only you may find that the magazine is leaning one way or the other. In that case focus most of your trimming with sandpaper or file on the side that is high and pushing the mag away. That way as you get to where it locks into place it'll also be seated straighter.

So that's another key factor. Inspect a lot and develop a work plan before you start trimming.

Hey thanks for the advice, I'll see what the retailer says. I contacted promag industries and upfront they said the mag seemed to be a defective unit, problem is they won't ship me a new one as I'm outside USA :( Contacted the retailer I bought the stock from and will see if they offer to swap the mag for me.

I'll still try to remove the action to be sure it really is the mag and not the kit.

I have that stock and had no issues with the mags latching into place. I just couldnt get 2 rounds out without a failure, tried filing the plastic so it would feed better on one of my two mags but didnt help.Even the mags without the sleeve on dont feed. So after five days of anger I have a stock 10/22 and my kids have a new toy. Feel like and idiot for buying this, but at least the kids have fun with it.

well when I did not push the mag forward and it was kinda secured in the magwell I shot through 3 full mags without any issue ... makes me wonder lol

I was having a lot of magazine seating issues so I got a Kidd S/S magazine latch plunger and spring kit and installed it. I also put in a larger mag release lever at the same time. I haven't had any problems since and I use lots of different aftermarket mags including a 110 rd drum, no more latching problems.
