10/22 Not so bad after all

I've had my 10/22 for 15 years and it's incredible the amount of rounds I have put through it. It's been flawless. I've heard some of the newer ones are the problem ones. I still think its one damned fine rifle and would still buy a new one even with all the bad reports. I just found rem thunderbolts to be a problem in it, feeds fine mostly accuracy issues.

No offense, but what plinker worth his/her salt doesn't salivate over hi-cap mags, aftermarket or otherwise?

:)

This plinker... certainly does. You don't know how much I'd like to have hi-cap mags available for the 795. But hey, I'm not exactly 'rolling in it' so I have to be careful of my purchases and at the time (not that I regret it even now) the 795 was a better deal for me. I guess I'll just have to learn to switch out my mags faster. :p

I like my 10/22 as well. Having said that these guns are made to customize. You really can't expect to much of it out of the box. I didn't actually shoot mine with the stock barrel but after I put a GM barrel on it shot like a dream. If I wanted out of the box accuracy I wouldn't get the ruger 10/22 - I would get a TC probably. I have found my 10/22 to be very reliable though with virtually no FTF's and only several FTE and that was my fault for not cleaning the barrel and using waxy target ammunition.

Lone-Wolf, I got mine from Marstar. Right around $100 IIRC. I love the look of it even if the finish is less than perfect. I think it would look even better if I had the stainless steel version. Maybe I'll just have to get another one.

Oh yeah? Let's just examine your next words to see just HOW much...;)

Sounds like salivation to me! :)

Sadly, who is, these days? :(

It sure looks like a dang nice firearm.

Me too - my AR-7 is my only other .22 semi, and it only has 8 to a clip!

We're not so different, you and I! :);):)

I had a buddy show me how to make the trigger work really nice, and it turned out to be pretty accurate. Funny though, my 10/22 is the only gun I own and almost never shoot. I guess it really does suck.

I don't mean to hijack the thread again but...

How do you like your AR-7 cyclone? I've heard so much negative stuff about them, and I've also heard great reviews on them. Are the negatives just people expecting too much from a survival rifle?

I love my 10 -22 also. Any mis-fires have been the fault of the ammo. I exchanged the stock for an ATI synthetic...scares the hell out of people when they see it. I bought a Remington in .17 HMR semi auto...couldn't put more than 3 rounds out without a jam, sent it back, and because I was so happy with the Ruger 10-22 I exchanged the .17 for a lever action Ruger in .17HMR. Incredible gopher gun, the flat trajectory of the .17 and the impact is amazing. Took a 50 lb coyote with one shot with the .17, he never took one step after the hit, dropped on the spot. Hope the .17 ammo cost comes down.
