Ok, so I bought a Aimpoint Pro and wanted to mount it on my 10/22. The scope rail which came with the 10/22 had grooves which were too narrow to fit the crossbar on the Aimpoint. I went to the local shop to buy a rail with larger grooves and they gave me a Weaver brand 10/22 rail when I explained my problem. It doesn't fit either. I assume I need a rail with a Picatinny groove pattern. How can I tell and what do you recommend?

You didn't buy a $49.95 "Ampoint Pro" did you? The airsoft ones were made for out of spec rails only, they won't fit anything made by a semi-competent worker. If its a real Aimpoint then it should fit both Weaver and Picatinny rails. The OE Ruger rail accepts both 20mm Weaver, Picatinny and 3/8" dovetail mounts/rings.
Nope! I bought a real Aimpoint ($489) from a legitimate gun shop. The bar on the mount is just slightly too wide. For fun I tried it on my son's Nerf gun and it fits.

I would look on Amazon.ca to be honest. There are a zillion mounting rails for optics and the prices are usually way better than the typical dealers. If you absolutely have to have a brand name rail then try WSS, Cabelas and the other big guys. I have also had good luck with P&D (site sponsor, up in the banner ads). Their prices aren't rock bottom, but service has been good and they have had stock when no one else did.

dont use the UTG Dovetail to weaver/picatinny adapter from amazon. its Brutal. And i didn't know weaver/picatinny were different. good to know. Although UTG doesn't seem to think so though
