Hello, I'm looking to purchase my first gun and would like a semi-auto .22. I just plan in using it for target shooting.
I don't want to spend too much on it but want something that isn't gonna jam all the time either.
Any reccomendations?
Also should I be looking to buy new or used? Any rough price suggestion for new or used would be great too. :)

I ended up getting a new 10/22 Black Syn, SS barrel. It came as a package deal, so I got a scope, soft bag and a BC plastic lipped 25rnd mag. I would have really like to have gotten my hands on a target model, but I was having difficulties finding one here in Edmonton. But I plan on getting a different stock and upgrading (for fun) so I was not that concerned in the end, just wanted to get a rifle.

10/22's ballpark figure is around $280-$300. This will get you blued steel and a wood stock, synthetic/stainless is a bit more, thumbhole stock/heavy target barrel is around $500.

Buying a new one will likely mean tinkering with it and spending a bit more to get it to cycle properly.

Just an opinion, but it takes a long time (or poor maintenance) to wear out a .22, so find a used one in really good shape that someone else has already added things like an ejector and mag. release extension to.

A couple of weeks ago, I bought a brand new Marlin Model 60 from Bass Pro for $159. Already 2000 rounds through it! It is an incredibly fun gun to shoot and accurate too. Why buy used?

I bought my first .22 about 2 months ago. I got a Ruger 10/22 carbine in hardwood. came to about $360.00 with tax. Great gun easy to clean, light, accurate, lots of fun being semi auto. I'cve put jsut under 1000 rounds through it no problem. If you wanna trick out it later I think it'd be hard to beat a ruger 10/22 for after market parts.
