Howdy,

I decided to refinish my 10/22 stainless receiver in anticipation of an upcoming build. I also got tired of look at a gouge mark from a casing getting stuck between the receiver and the bolt...and the scratch mark some idiot put on the side of the receiver with a screw driver (that idiot may have been me...).

Anyway, I used a fine file and got the edges pretty much honed. My original plan was to bead blast it and paint it with silver engine paint. I'm wondering if a light touch up coat of silver might be all I need.

Should I go for the bead blast or am I safe with a thin coat of silver?

Cheers,
Hankus

the "stainless" receiver is just aluminum. it looks nice draw filed or polished. search the site for some pictures of guys and there modified 10/22

i think if you blast it and then paint the receiver, it will give the silver a mat finish. not sure , never done it.

Yeah, I think it will turn out looking pretty much the same as it did new. I'm just wondering how durable the finish will be if I apply the new paint over a (partial) existing layer of paint.

I agree, the polished aluminum receivers do look awesome.
