yes, i will admit that i have not owned a 10/22 until a week ago. i kept getting put off by the posts saying a piece of crap they were out of the box.
regardless, i had a vision one day of a 10/22 in my little brain and how i could make it look mean and have fun. i picked up a stainless synthetic stock version, ordered a BC folding stock from wholesale sports, added an el cheapo $50 tasco 3-9 x 32 that came with glasses and muffs and am waiting for a couple of smoked 25 round steel lips clips i ordered. not only does this look relatively mean, this thing can shoot anything i feed it, included rem thunderbolts  i forgot to mention that i got the vq hammer and bolt buffer from hawktech. i'm in love with this little beast.
Rattattattattatat!!!!! ratatat!!! says I, for I am RUGER MAN, naysayer turned believer...all hail the mighty 10/22!

now if only my KP345R would come in, seeing as i ordered it four months ago.

They are nice. I've owned a couple and never found them to dislike any type of ammo. I found the long range accuracy a little off though. I have ordered a Marlin Model 7000 that's supposedly pretty good in that department. The Ruger is a very nice gun though, and no doubt I will own another.

Im another one of those guys who until recently have never owned a 10/22

Well I got a fairly new one a few weeks ago in a trade, and shot it the first time last weekend. I was not impressed with the accuracy or the reliability.

Perhaps it was due to the fact that I was shooting old mixed up ammo, but I had alot of stovepipes.

Things improved slighty when I tried some other ammo, but accuracy was still nothing to write home about.

Im going to order a few select VQ parts and we'll see if that makes a difference. I can see how this is turning into a challenge, to make a mediocre gun into a reliable tack driver.

Supposedly this is where the Marlin 7000 takes off. Other than a crappy trigger, they are supposedly tack drivers. I guess I'll find out in a week or two when mine gets here.

I think you found your problem .

My 10/22 is super reliable with Winchester Super X and Powerpoints . 1 FTF and 1 misfire with Super X out of 500 and so far only 1 misfire with the Powerpoints ( out of about 200 ) ..... and I haven't cleaned the rifle in the last 700+ rounds either . I use both the factory mags and BC Steelips .

Accuracy is typical of most semi auto's , my best 5 round group is about 3/4 " at 50 yds . Most are larger .

I picked mine up a few years ago... yes it was fun to plink with but as most will say, the standard model (non-target) is a blaster and not an accuracy machine.

I did several mods (and boy are they fun to build up!!)... bull barrel and trigger work were the key changes. This thing is a tack driver and has tons of fondle factor. It's a 25 yard single hole monster that eats anything and everything I've fed her. I'm going to build another!

How about some pics of these 1 hole monsters guys . Some of us are still in the parts gathering stageand would like to see what this box of bits looks like put together.

I have one thats stock staniless/synthetic minus the VQ extractor and hammer.

Easily holds 1"-10shot groups at 50yds. Fun litttle blaster. I figure I'll add a Clerke barrel and a Hogue stock and that should improve it a little more.

I love my 10/22. It is still my favourite gun. It's cheap, reliable, and fun. I have read many threads on problems with them but have yet to have a problem with the gun itself. I also added a vq hammer and a vq bolt buffer. I have found that the only problem is the high cap mags. I had a jamline 50 rounder and it was the worst mag I have ever owned. It consistantly failed to feed and I can't remember any time that I got more than ten rounds jam free. The B.C 25 round steel lips aren't bad but can jam with certain rounds. Mostly I use the stock 10 rounder and have never had a problem.

I bought a Choate camo Dragunov stock for mine, added a flash suppressor (PURELY for looks) tasco 3x9, and added a front foregrip (like a tommy gun), not too mention a 50rd drum mag. This gun is easily the most fun you can have in a .22 - its very accurate - and you won't find anything better for varmints - I still believe that the Ruger 10/22 is bar none the best .22 out there for those of use that don't have $1000.00 for each gun. I picked up mine used for $80.00 (YES! 80.00!) and replace the barrel with a brand new stock barrel (lots of guys buy bull barrels right away, so you can pick up a brand new barrel for around $20.00). I would say I have about $350.00 into my Ruger, and its the best money I've vever spent on a gun.

I bought my first one this spring and have done a few mods including putting all the VQ parts into the trigger group, sent the bolt to CPC in the states and had it trued up, firing pin pinned and it jeweled (looks awesome), rear of the bolts radius change. Put a set screw into the trigger, removed all over travel. Threw on a nice Weaver 2-7 33mm scope. Left the stock deluxe walnut stock on it and it shoots great now.

The only problem I had was a power custom sear i put in, for some reason it did not like it and would fire off 2-4 round on one trigger pull and then wouldnt function...took it out and put the factory on back and its great. Trigger set down to 2.5 lbs.

mines a sleeper, all internal work -VQ hammer kit, extractor, and Buffer. Extended mag release and some polishing of internals, Very nice trigger, shooting dimes at 50 with a Bushnell sportsman scope.

I'd be interested in building one as a winter project Rifle, but I'm waiting until one can simply buy the reciver, and then add to it yourself, instead of having to buy a whole Rifle, and swap parts. Anyone know if they sell just recivers yet?

Also I was looking at these Uber slick barrels today:

I picked up one in the spring, changed the trigger, sear, hammer, bolt release etc. to VQ, and been happy with it once I did that - now time to look at new barrel and stock, to ### it up!

Got a cheap!cheap! Tasco on it, and it will shoot anything I put through it better than I can - off a sandbag, I can hit a thin dime at 50 yds.

I am very happy with my Ruger.

That's the4 route that Iwanted to go as well . Unfortunately they are onl available in the states and are usually more than we can get a used rifle for ,plus all the hastle in importing a firearm from there, since the reciever is the only thing registered.

Well, I will try to attach a pic of mine. It is/was a 10/22 Anniversary Edition. I put a Weaponkraft bolt buffer and a Power Custom hammer in it (dropped the trigger pull to about 2.5-3 pounds), then I got a Boyd's Thumbhole Laminate to replace the factory stock that got damaged when my basement flooded. I was impressed with the Boyds, even though it took a while to get here. The fit was good and it didn't take me too long to get it done.
