Well I'm finally going to get into the 10/22 market have everything else but a autoloading 22. I'd be using mostly for target and ground squirrel pounding. Dunno if there are any 10/22 competition but it'll probably interest me too.

So were to start I know there are a limitless amount of mods one could do for 10/22 but I assume a new barrel will be the best value.

Who makes aftermarket 10/22 barrels and carries them in Canada?
What else should be changed out?
How well does the factory bull barrel perform?
Aftermarket stocks do you have to bed them (even though they're drop in fit)?

What else should I look out for, gremlins?

Thanks in advance, just like to add from reading this forum a lot of you guys have some really nice rigs.

Cheers,

My advice to you is to spend the extra hundo and get the target model of the 10/22, I have owned 3, currently 2 and all have had the standard barrel. The target model comes in blued or stainless and already has a VERY good heavy barrel on it as well as the target trigger which is good too. Best of all for the extra hundo you spend on the target model you save the $250 to $400 you'll spend on a heavy barrel. Then all you have to do is get a thumb hole stock and they are usually $175 and up. I once spent the extra money $315.00 on a barrell then $229.99 on a thumbhole stock only to walk into the gun store the next week to see 4 brand new target models on the shelf, I got a slightly better stock, but the barrel was the same....ish, and for only another hunderd and fifty more than the barrel I coulda just bought the whole gun, action, spanky trigger and all. Oh well you win some and you loose some!!

As for bedding the stock..... I did it once, and I shaved 1/4" off of my groups @ 75 yrds. Its alot of work, i'm still not sure if its worth it unless you are VERY serious, in which case you'll spend ALOT of money customizing. I know a guy that has about $5600.00 tied up in his 10/22. It's not for everybody.

I have a bolt gun that can sometimes out shoot his 10/22, it beats all of mine all to crap, and it only cost me $250.00!! its a savage with a heavy barrel and the accu-trigger. On a good day I get 7/8" 10 shot groups @ 50yrds with American eagle brick ammo. Hell on a bad day its still an 1 1/2" group!!! If I drop the extra on target ammo its even better!!

All in all I still LOVE my 10/22's they are a blast to shoot, and lets face it.... If the gophers die, thats all that matters!!

Good luck, hope this helps.... If only one person learns from my mistakes..........lol ;)

:D
The admission fees are quite high as are the text books....bring LOTS of money!

I have a regular 10/22 carbine...
I bought a mag release extension, bolt hold open thingy, and a trigger assembly, all from Volquartzen. Still the same gun with a slightly better trigger. All that stuff cost almost as much as the gun originally did.

Aftermarket barrels are hard to find. Look at Fabsports.ca I think he gets a few GM barrels in here and there. Polish the internals. Power-custom adj. sear/hammer,bolt buffer, bolt release. Lastly, replace that furniture with a decent stock.

Thanks guys for all the info, I just received in the mail my 10/22T with a Fajen Legacy stock. The .920 barrel is heavier than I thought. So now I need rings to mount my scope (Tasco Varmint 6-24x42) I kinda decided on Burris Signature Zee rings (will it fit?) and what height will I need (mediums or highs)?

Thanks all.
