Vortex crossfire 2-7 rimfire
OR
Bushnell R3 rimfire 3-9x40

Both no brainer. Inexpensive with awesome warranty and will increase your fun.

Yes I own both
Where does the price point on the price of the gun meet the price of the scope? The old adage of "spend twice on glass as you do on your gun" doesn't really apply anymore, and never really has when it came to standard .22lr

Even when I worked in a gun shop in the 90’s that was a saying. It was quite rare to encounter someone willing to spend that much in glass. I think ideally spending 1/2 the price of the rifle on glass is a much more idealist view.
Reality then kicks in and most spend money on the rifle and use leftover funds for glass. Many users here have the funds and enthusiasm for firearms optics and that’s great that they can afford it. For those that can’t pls remember ~”comparison is the killer of joy”

I've got a couple cheap Simmons Pro Target rimfire scopes for my kids, thinking it's a decent brand and should be ok. They're not as good as Simmons used to be, that's for sure. The crosshairs are so thick that they're only good for plinking on steel out to about 109 yards or so, then they start to block too much. I've got an older Simmons 6.5-20 on a 10/22 target model I've had for 15 years or so, and I'm still happy with it, and I've got a Mueller 4-16 on another 22 that's fairly decent. Neither are anywhere near a high end scope, but both are useable scopes out to around 200 yards or better. I do like my Athlon scopes, but haven't tried anything cheaper than the Argos, but I've heard good things about the Talos line.
