Was looking into 1 of these rifles as my first .22. Some questions you guys may be able to help me with are:
1) Is 10/22 compact non-restricted or restricted?
2) What would effective range be on both?
3) Standard is 38" and compact is 33", will this make much difference?
4) Anybody have experience with compact? How does it feel in comparison to standard? I noticed the buttstock is shorter than standard in side by side pics, will this make any difference when shooting?

1. Both are non restricted.
2. The "effective" range on either would be up to you. Given that the 22lr is at maximum velocity at 16"" of barrel they would be about the same.
3. Depends. If you are just planning on plinking and maybe shooting gophers, probably not. If you are a smaller person or are planning on going out to hunt small game and are planning to backpack it. The compacty has an advantage there.
4. The compact is noticeably shorter and lighter. LOP is smaller on the 10/22 compact so it may not shoulder as well on a larger person. Even my girlfriend fount the standard carbine to be a better fit.

Your best bet is to find a store with the compact and the carbine and get a feel for the two.

I dont know for sure, but if you plan on getting a folding stock on the gun the compact may be too small. I think the carbine with the folding stock is just over 26". If you want to spend an extra $100 the folding stock is super cool, haha. Plus then youd have a small gun that is also comfortable for a full-grown man.

The folding stock + 16.5 inch bbl comes in under 26 inches.

I have one in my folding stock. I permanently attached a muzzle brake and now its good to go at 26 1/4 inches.

As for the factory stock, I like the butt plate better on the CRR but I find the stock a bit small for me. The sights on the CRR are WAY better than those on the standard 10/22

As for accuracy, out to 50m I dont see any difference. I am using iron sights right now (aftermarket ones) so I dont shoot too far too often.

The CRR barrel is much lighter. Thats why I chose it for my current 10/22. Its very handy. Moving from target to target is quick. I think it is the ultimate short range blaster barrel for the 10/22 for the dollar.
