got an extra mag for my 10/22, the rotary type, from Ruger, but its sticky as heck, the original drops in and falls out no problem, and as far as i can see both are a carbon copy of each other, how do i go about making my spare just as smooth as the original?

I found that the injection mold seams were heavy and needed sanding.

Measure the mags with a caliper, you'll be amazed at the size differences between mags.
A few thou. can make a world of difference.

You can also sand the mags but that might make them loose in any other rifle you have that uses this mag.

I usually sand to fit with all my mags so they all fall out easily. They have all needed a little adjusting, but once done run great.

I have even manipulated the screw head on them, (filed it down at an angle) (top of it) so they slam into place easier as well when you are installing them. Just putting a bit of a bevel on the screw head, as that is what runs the plunger back.

My go to 10-22 the mags were not designed for a guy with crippled hands. I have another 10-22 that has a better mag release but can't shoot it till I grind the stock off a lot. Never thought of sanding the mags down to fit better .

I’ve done it. A little at a time and recheck. More satisfying that watching crap TV.

thank you all, Im bit confused on which side to sand? to me it feels the back of the mag (the one facing the trigger) is 'catching' on the housing of the stock
maybe I should have included that this particular rifle is in a archangel stock as well

You sand what ever side you feel is catching.

I usually start with the overlaps. Sometimes you can see the injected material is thicker in places, so start there. I have even started with a fine file, and finished with finer grip paper.

Ultimately you want the magazine to fall out easily when you hit the release. Nothing more frustrating than fighting a mag that does not want to fall out.
