10/22 Stock Options - Is the Hogue Overmold that bad?

Looking at the Hogue, but hearing that the stock flexes, and used with a bipod can be detrimental to accuracy.

I was also considering the stock Target Model stock, but I really like the look and feel of the Hogue.

What else is there?

I am not interested in any of the benchrest styles, or thumbholes either.

I would consider the Boyds SS Evolution, but the gun will be shot a lot offhand, so not sure how comfortable it would be. It is also 2x's the price of the Hogue.

Opinions are appreciated.

I have the hogue stock setup and have never had a problem with or without bipod. I can't see how it effects accuracy as I can make single little 10 rnd holes all day long.
 
I only have experience with the hogue on my Howa 1500 .308, even with the 20" hvy bbl it remains free floated off both bipod and bags. It doesnt flex as much as most factory stocks but it isnt like a full aluminum bedding block either. I think most people with hard feelings against the hogue have much better stocks on their precision rifles: in that case their opinions are well founded. But for mostly offhand shooting they are definetely up to snuff. If you find it flexes to much there is still plenty of room in there to stiffen it up. I'll be dremeling out the support ribs in the forend of mine and laying up 8 layers of fiberglass like Hungry did with his norc M305 stock. As far as bedding goes, the inletting cut is quite good and should only need a skim bedding job. I say if you like how the hogue feels, you will like it on your 10/22. If it flexes too much you can stiffen it up in an afternoon. Whats the tab up to on your little Ruger money pit now anyways? :p mine is "expensive, not calculated" for mental stability.
 
I have a Hogue .920 on my 10/22 and the feeling of the rubber and the fit of the bull barrel is amazing. I used to have it all tac'd out for a couple years but went this direction now and love it.
 
I have the Hogue .920 and a butler creek 20" heavy barrel as well. I've never seen it affect accuracy in any way. I mostly use bags when I shoot it at the bench, but have used a bipod. It's all good.

I use this gun mostly for gophers and my " knocking around" gun. One thing I will say is that you'll never see a safe kiss on it! It's tough! One of the best ones for the money for what it sounds like you want to use it for. And the rubber grip/texture is great in the winter or when your wearing gloves.

I've done 3 builds using Hogue stocks.
I currently have a 10/22 MAG. and a 10/22 Tactical LR, both with Houge stocks.
Awesome stock and highly recommended!

for 91.15 shipped from Brownells you cant go wrong.... I bought my first one this year and I will use them again on future builds...
 
I was shooting a friends 10/22 that he got when he was a kid a long time ago and it had a wooden Ruger stock that looks exactly like the Hogues but it had a raised comb.
Real nice stock but the comb made it hard to use the irons for my cheek.
 
I have a Houge for my Ruger 10/22. Nothing wrong with it. No flex that I can see or feel and a big step up from stock. The rubber finish is great for wet weather and does not mark and takes abuse well.

You cannot go wrong with aHouge for the Ruger IMHO.

It seems fine. I didn't notice any change between bipod and front bag. But then again I wasn't put a lot of weight on it either. Off hand it should be perfect. If you don't like it, they are easy to sell. I'm actually pretty fond of the hogue stock on this build.

Hogue Tan Gillie stock
Dlaks 16" fluted and threaded bull barrel

Current rings are lower than the picture. Just need the trigger work done. This thing shoots American Eagle 38 grain copper like it was match ammo. I'm very happy.

The desert tan one on the bottom... It's still NA, overal length is just over 26" without the dlask muzzle device on. I cut the stock and rail shorter than I needed because I prefer the look of still having some barrel coming out the end.
