10/22 stock trigger - clunk sound?

I'm just wondering, as today I really tried to nail bench shooting - and I made some good progress in that department.

Anyways - I changed the way that I press on the trigger. Instead of pulling, I squeeze using a "constriction" I guess.. and it slowly presses and then I hear this "clunk" sound - and at this point the trigger is hair sensitive. From here, I can make a much more accurate shot because there is no shifting the rifle when pulling the trigger.

What is that called? Does it have something to do with the sear?
 
Do you have a 2 stage trigger? I've never had a factory 10/22 trigger work like that so if its not aftermarket then there's probably a burr or machining chatter in there somewhere giving you a 2 stage feel. Its a very good thing for precision work.
 
Mine does something similar, I've got about a 3lb trigger on a standard pull and if I flick the safety on and pull the trigger then disengage the safety I then have a aprox. 1/2lb pull.

I did this with some careful dremeling. Not sure why yours does this
 
I performed the 5 part youtube mod on the awful trigger that came with my SKS, and it's much lighter and smoother now.
It's similar to your 10/22 trigger, almost a two stage, you pull lightly on it, you feel a little click, then the tiniest bit more
and it fires. Doesn't hurt my shooting one bit, but of course the SKS is by no means an accurate target rifle, lol...so I'm
limited by the barrel, etc.. I think you'll find it helps your accuracy.

What you are experiencing is the normal take up in a factory Ruger trigger group. The take up is a result of a poor fit between the sear and disconnect. It's not normally noticeable until you start polishing the trigger group.

Oh thanks, I don't want to get rid of it lol, it helps my groups big time haha :D
