Hello,
Im having a problem with wobble between my boyds stock and my 10/22.

I could lift the receiver/barrel from the stock by about a milimeter or two. As a temporary measure, I have put a washer on the inside of the stock which has stopped the wobble. Its as if the screw is bottoming out.

The washer I have in there is pretty thick and perhaps too much so. It is angling the receiver up at the front now just a little but it is all solid.

Any problems if I were to keep using a washer if I get a thinner one? or should I do something else?

Thanks!

You need to bed your action & barrel in your stock by either a permanent means (fiberglass resin, epoxy, J.B. Weld etc.) or by non permanent means with bedding pads.

thought so, the rear and front(magazine well) is all bedded, but that one area where the stock screw comes through.

You say bed the barrel, i was under the impression that nothing should touch the barrel?

thanks for your help!

I had the same problem. I found that adding a few shims made from a pop can to the little "shelf" that that the rear of the receiver "sits" on worked perfectly. (I super glued them in place) I also added a thin plastic shim to each side of the trigger assembly to keep it solid as it had some play in it too.

I'd encourage you to play around with non-permanent shims in different areas until you get it just right and then a drop of super glue will provide a semi-permanent solution. (I find super glue to be rather easy to remove if it needs to be but will hold for as long as you need it to)

As for your barrel, sometimes free floating it provides the best accuracy and sometimes bedding it does. I'd try free floating it first unless you can non-permanently bed it.

Good luck!
