I was at Al Simmons today and saw a Ruger 10/22 heavey barrel with the same target stock as the Mini 14 T. I don't even see these on the Ruger web site. Has anyone else seen these or used one. I am interested but it is fairly pricey.:D

I picked one up last week, shoots like a dream - Since I already have a Mini-14 with the same stock, it was a natural purchase.

I will post some pics later tonight if I get a chance.

Nice. Thanks, clang :)

There is a slight difference between the two
in the size of the round notch at the rear, behind the cheek-rest.
That is usualy made for the earmuff,
but its usefullness depends on the shooting position (when bench-rested).

Does it have the same feeling of
"strong/heavy" as the mini14 stock?

Did it come with the Ruger hammer-forged barrel
with helix marks on the outside?

Thanks again :)

Is there any advantage to that stock vs the 'Barricuda' target set-up on Frontiers web-site? Been wanting to do up a target 10/22 and that red/white one looks to be a great starting point

Dr. Lector,
The stock feels the exact same, very rock solid. The main difference is the 10/22 does not have any additional spacers for the butt stock. The recoild pad is not removable like on the Mini-14.

The 10/22 barrel is not smooth, is has a diagonal/stripe type forging pattern on, I will take a pic and post it for you.

I could not get the barrel to heat up at the range, no matter how many rounds passed through it.

I am very happy with the rifle - especially for a impulse buy!

Barracuda is for very short and/or light barrels.
Please observe the Barracuda how little it supports the barrel.
If a long/heavy barrel is used, the barrel weight
is going to put a lot of stress on the receiver.
Even with a short (or carbon fiber) barrel,
if you want to get closer to real accuracy,
you may have to install the second hold-down
(see rimfirecentral dot com for details).

The ruger stock (mini14 type) supports the barrel better
with all the advantages that come from that.

Barracuda is for LCF (but she's one of my old loves),
but if you go for target, go with the mini14 type,
or the plastic Fajen stock (the one that Frontier website
calls "adjustable stock").
Whatever you do, DO NOT buy a Bell & Carlson stock.

Thanks, but it is not necessary,
now I understand what kind of barrel you have :)

Please post range reports after you do some shooting with it.
Try a lot of ammo.
Do not bother with the cheap bulk one, it won't shoot tight.
Stay away from stingers, velocitors or other hi-velocity crap.

Try Lapua, Eley, Federal Gold Match, stuf like that.

So far so good - While sighting in my scope I was able to get nickle size groupings @ 25 yards with cheap bulk Winchester ammo. I will have to pick some good struff before I go out next time.

Wow.....great information..........thanks clang! I really like the look of them a lot. I was not aware of the barrel info though, to interested in the stock I guess. Thanks to whom ever about the different stocks as well. This has pretty well sorted out what I am getting.

Well Clang........we both have the 10/22T now. Mine should be arriving soon from Frontier. What scope have you got? For now I am putting on a 1.5 to 4X. I might change that out down the road though. By the way anymore shooting reports?

Camj,
I put on a Leupold Rifleman 3x9-50 (yes I know....) I never owned a Leupold before, the glass is very nice!!! super clear, it makes shooting the rifle a breeze! probably more scope then needed, but it nwas chance to get a Leupold so I went for it!

My other rifles all have Zeiss Conquest's with target knobs, which are far superior to what is on the Rifleman (coin slot adjustments?) Something similar would be nice on the rifleman - my local gun shop has a VERY limited selection of scopes (unless you want a Bushnell - which there is nothing wrong with Bushnell either - just personal choice!)

Man I can hardly wait to start comparing notes. Thanks SO much for your comments!! I have not been so excited about a new rifle for a long while. I figure once I get re-employeed a nice Bushnell in the 4000 class should do the job. Your mini looks great too. I better start saving for a stable mate soon!!!
