I'm about start building my 10/22 and since this will probably be the gun I shoot more than anything else I decided to sink some real effort and resources into it.

I decided to go with the Troy T-22 sporter stock:

a Tactical Solutions heavy barrel because of one of Nutnfancy's vids on it:

Love or hate him, I think he provides pretty good info in most of his reviews.

The only Canadian retailer that I have found to be selling the Troy T-22 in Canada so far is here:

http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php?837730-10-22-Rifle-Stocks-Troy-Industries-amp-Archangel&highlight=Troy+t22

I heard Wanstalls has Tacsol barrels but I couldn't find them on their site. I'm assuming other retailers do as well I just need to find them.

I'm certain the Troy stock is what I want I have some flexibility on the barrel but I want it to be heavier accurate barrel that is not too front heavy. I've heard that the Dlask bull barrels make the gun very front heavy.

I was wondering if it was worth it to bother to buy a stock 10/22 just to strip most of the parts from it or if there was somewhere I could get get just receiver group parts for cheaper, and where should I look for them.

Yes I will look around the EE, do any retailers sell the these parts for cheaper than the cost of a $240 new 10/22.

I was thinking of getting a 14-16" barrel I don't know what the standard lengths are for aftermarket tacsol or other barrels.

How much range and velocity would I lose on a short 12.5" barrel versus 14 or standard 18.5 barrel.
Would it lose accuracy?

Anyway I look forward to hearing from you guys.
I'll probably add more questions as I think of them.

Go to "Ballistics by the Inch", see what their results were, with the ammo type you expect to use most. (I went with a 9" barrel and accepted I would loose 50 fps)

A shorter barrel will be stiffer so more likely to be more accurate.

When you really think about it a 22LR has more in common with pistol rounds than rifle so short barrels are perfect.

yeah the .22 doesnt need 16 and 18" barrels .. Beavis runs a 12.5" on his and i run a 14.5" on mine and cant say i notice any difference between ours, or between a standard length 10/22

tempted to cut it right down but then you start flirting with OAL... and she is an insideous slut of a misstress

So I checked out Ballistics by the Inch and yeah I was really surprised how miniscule the difference in velocity was between 18" and 12" barrel in 22LR. I guess I better find out how long the stock is and than get as short a barrel as is legal. Thanks guys.
Is 12.5 is that most common stock made short barrel?

So I decided to jump on that Troy T22 stock even though its black, because its the only decently priced one I've been able to find in Canada and I was told he had one left. Knowing my luck he'll probably have more in, in a month, in flat dark earth and for cheaper. But I've missed out for not jumping on deals when I saw them, and who knows with current gun market chaos in the states. Anyway I guess I'm looking for someone in Calgary or Southern Alberta to duracoat it or something now. Any ideas?

I've shopped here before, and would again:

Troy stock IN stock, fast shipping.

12, 16 and 18" barrels don't seem to offer much difference for me. Actuall I've had the best results @ 200m with the stock sr22 barrel, but it also has by far the most rounds through it. Doesn't much matter since for me the biggest grin factor with the sr comes from quantity not quality :)

If you are in Southern AB, my advice is to stop by Princess Auto and pick up an airbrush kit for darn cheap then grab some "Arma-coat" in the color you want and coat/color the system you desire.

I did so with a 10/22 project a couple years ago and was very happy.

Well, you have started your project with the right chassis. The T-22 is a quality component. If you want to install a barrel shorter than 14.5", it will be recessed within the hand guard. You could install a 12.5" threaded with a comp and it may stick out by about 0.5" to 0.75" or so.
Armacoat services can do a professional custom paint job for you and they are in Edmonton (?) I think. You can find them on our forum under Manufacturers and gunsmiths.
Good luck and enjoy!

Actually, the 12.5" barrel sticks out over an inch...

Where can I get 12.5" barrels? Can't find them anywhere. Specifically the TacSol. I see they have a 12" barrel but with a permanately attached shroud thingy making it 16.5". Can this barrel be bought without that shroud? I'm looking for ways to make my SR-22 lighter and adding a TacSol aluminum barrel would drop 1lb, more if it were a short barrel.

My 12.5 is from Dlask.
As far as making it lighter... You know the sr is the heaviest 10/22 made, right? Spend $250 on a new plastic 10/22 and shave a couple pounds right off the bat. Mine is currently wearing a 20" .920 SS barrel, and weighs something like 8 pounds lol! Looks cool as hell, but is ridiculously nose heavy with no noticable ballistic benefit. That barrel will be climbing aboard a lathe in the near future! Truly my favorite so far for the sr is the stock .750 taper 16" barrel. The SR22 is produced for looks and ar-esque ergonomics.
10/22s are dirt cheap - it is your duty as a citizen to have several.

The 12.5" bull barrel will make the gun lighter than a 16" barreled one, plus the weight is moved closer to the center so it handles better.

Like the above fella mentioned, the 10/22 is cheap enough you ought to have a couple, or at least one that you configure differently from time to time.

This is definitely incorrect. I have a T22 chassis with a 16" barrel and it sticks out 2 3/4" past the handguard. You do the math but I guarantee a 12.5" barrel will make for a dirty handguard if you don't put a linear compensator on it.

For Tac Sol barrels, Wanstalls had a bunch when I was there last Nov.
I cannot recall what the exact lengths were - send them an email.

I have the TacSol on my T22. It makes for a ridiculously light rifle. I did buy it from Wanstalls but I have only ever seen them carry the 16" barrel. The 16" TacSol barrel is still significantly lighter than the 12.5 Dlask. Don't get me wrong, both are great barrels as I own both but the TacSol is much lighter.

Here's a pic of a Dlask 12.5 with linear comp on the T-22.

And a pic of a Volquartsen 16" carbon tensioned in the same chassis.

This barrel gives the chassis a very light and balanced feel.
