10/22 takedown or not?

I found a line on a new 10/22 takedown and was thinking of buying it, but the issues of crooked sights and mushrooming barrel end have me freaked out. I also found a new 10/22 in birch and can't really decide which one to buy. It seems like the standard birch would have less problems in the future, was just wondering what the 10/22 expierienced guys would think about this. If you have some good opinions please let me hear them. Thanks
 
I have a newer one, sights are straight and no signs of mushrooming yet. But I havn't shot it a whole lot either. No other issues that I've noticed so far.
 
The salesman at the store I bought my 10/22 TD, showed me how to take it down and assemble it. He also told me NOT to fiddle with the adjustment knob. I'll do just that until I feel that I need to use said knob... It seems that if one must use the knob, one must be careful not to over tighten.

The directions in the manual actually encourage you to use the knob to initially set the fit of the two halves
 
I havent had issues with mine its my fav rifle right now. To be fair i only shot 2k rounds or so through it i am not sure when the mushrooming should happen
 
Just read about a guy who sent his rifle back after a mushroom issue. The new barrel/ chamber (front end) that he received has a blued chamber, as if it had been heated. That was not the case on his original ( mushroomed ) rifle. Perhaps Ruger changed the heat treatment on the chamber? The one I bought has that same blueing.

Thanks dand883, I'll make sure the fit is nice and tight.... Sure seemed to be when the salesman showed the assembly procedure. I know about the instruction.... I better get to reading them ; )
 
From what I hear a scoped Takedown won't group well unless the snug ring is very tight, when he backed it off a click or two it shot everywhere.
So I'm thinking of a Skinner peep sight mounted on the very back of the barrel, you can see my thread on here...
Besides, my son and I have a Savage stainless 93 bolt action with Accutrigger in .17HMR, and that thing shoots moa, so we didn't need another
tackdriver.
