10/22 trigger assembly help?

I can't seem to get the Magazine Latch Plunger properly re-inserted. It does not seem to go in far enough to catch the latching point. Is there a trick or some procedure I'm not aware of? Appreciate any help.

It goes in first, before the magazine catch and bolt latch pin. It's retained by the mag catch.
