Hey,

I'm new to the forum, but not my 10/22 -

I have a 10/22 with a standard barrel, Choate Camo Dragunov stock - to which I added a combat foregrip (like a Tommy gun), 3 x 9 Tasco with 'see through' raised rings, and a trigger job by STS. I'm wondering about adding a titanium firing pin and extractor - problem is, my bolt is quite old (70's) and I'm wondering if I should just buy a new bolt assembly. I don't have a ton of jams (none when I'm shooting sensibly with the factory 10rd mags) unless I've got my 50rd drum loaded up and am banging off alot of rounds quickly. Should I install the new pin and extractor in my old bolt - replace the bolt - or not bother at all - do these parts really 'give a more postive ignition, faster lock time, and less stovepipe jams' (blah, blah, blah). Or is this a classic case of buying another gun part that will make absolutely no difference in the performance of the rifle? Anyone with experience with these parts please help![/b]

If you are not getting any failures to fire, don't bother with the firing pin. The extractor is a good idea and if you haven't put a urethane buffer of some sort in it, that is a must. The bolt usually only needs to be headspaced and you can send it to any gunsmith and have this done or do it yourself if you wish. Just my 02.

If you're not having any problems when you're using the factory 10rd rotary mag. don't waste your money. The 50rd drum will give you problems no matter what sort of mods you make....it'll never be as reliable as the factory mag. One thing you can try is bolt pinning, which will give you a more consistent and positive primer strike and reduce your flyers. Just my 2cents.

If you are using a light hammer spring and aftermarket hammer then the titanium firing pin is a good idea. The lighter mass will improve light strikes. Otherwise it isn't worth it. The extractor isn't a bad idea. Its cheap and effective. Also a bolt buffer is the best improvement you can make.
