i just got the lee 10 lb pot to me it seems small ,is it better for a beginner like myself to start with this or should i return it and get the 20 lb one??? do any of you guys have the 10 lb one ??? and what do you think of it ????thanks hound13

Iv been castin with my 10-lb for years. only problem is when casting big 500gr boolits it goes down fast. 10 lb is a lot of boolits for most cals and I just keep dropping in ingots to top it up.
 
Return it and get the 20 lb pot. Obviously it has more capacity, but also the heat is more constant and is easier to control.
 
I started with the 10lb pot (thought it was a 20lb) then upgraded to the actual 20lb pot and haven't looked back. If I ever get into black powder I will use the 10lb pot for pure lead only.
 
thanks for the info guys i seen the size of it and thought it was too small but even the guy i got it from said thats his biggest seller....... i think ill try it as a neweby. hound13
 
I've had two 10 lber's. Both leaked on a regular basis.. Moved up to a 20 and the leaking problem is mostly gone. Valve system has a different configuration.
 
i got a LEE pro 4-20? or something. dont leak and works good.
it really depends on how much you cast and how fast. remember that each time you add a lingot or whatever your temp drop.
if casting big bullet, like the LEE 1oz slug even my 20lbs pot goes down fast. on lighter bullet (150gr) you can cast for hours.

the 20lb pots seem to be pretty good for not leaking, mine hasn't leaked once but i've only put 200 pounds through it. my 10 lb pot would drip fairly constantly, not enough to bug me (most of the time).

casting 700gr bullets drains either pot very fast, only 10 bullets per pound :)

I found the same thing. 20 pounder was pretty much drip free but the 10 pounder leaked regularly. If you're throwing larger bullets like 44s or 45s you'll really appreciate the higher capacity of the 20 as you have to add alloy less frequently. The other bonus is that when you do add alloy the greater residual amount left in the pot melts he added alloy faster with less temperature drop. I try to not let my 20 pounder go below half full before adding new alloy.
 
...but way out here there's such a voltage drop!!!

I've been using RCBS pot for almost 15 years now, not a single issue. I would recommend that all day and night...
