Hi,

Can I shoot 40 S&W in 10 mm gun?

If you are talking about shooting .40 S&W's in a 10mm semi-auto pistol:

It is physically possible to do so HOWEVER it is not recommended & perhaps even unsafe to do so.

Both ctgs were meant to "headspace" on the front of the ctg case mouth in the barrel chamber. If you try to fire .40 S&W in a 10mm barrel the ctg will not properly "headspace" on it's case mouth as the .40 S&W case is shorter than the 10mm case that the 10mm chamber was designed for. It will only be held in the chamber by the extractor only. This presents a possibly unsafe situation whereby the case is not properly supported in the chamber.

Others may have more detail & I know there has been more than one article about the foley of attempting to fire .40's in a 10mm chamber.

You could always get a second barrel.....

Agreed... but if you have a Colt Delta Elite in 10mm just try & find a reasonably priced "drop-in" 5" barrel in .40 S&W... I say "drop-in" so you can go back & forth between it & the original 10mm barrel without altering the pistol from specs. I realize you could go the "custom fit" route... Much easier to find 'change out' barrels for pistols like the Glock, though...

But then again one might just buy a whole load of 10mm brass & not have to worry about it... ;)

And that's the rub. Most people seem to buy the 10mm for the frame size, then want to cheap and plentiful brass. In my case, I built a .40 1911 and had the throat lengthened so I could load to 10mm length.
