Hello,

I was looking for some advice. I am interested in playing around with a 10 mm Auto pistol, but I am not sure what handgun I should try out. I usually stick to polymer pistols, but I don't mind shooting all steel as well. I have pretty good luck with 1911s they seem to fit my hand perfectly. However, with the 10 mm Auto I am not sure which way to go.

I was thinking a Glock 20, but Freedom Ventures has the Tanfoglio "L" in 10 mm and since CZs (and often their clones) have a good reputation, I thought I might go that way. My last choice was a Dlask 1911 chambered in 10 mm, but that is nearing the top end of my price range.

I am looking for a more entry level pistol, something I don't have to modify too much, but I have the option to if I wanted. Since Glocks, Tanfoglio and 1911s can all be modified I'm not sure which way to go. Does anyone have any experience with any of these brands? Or even better, experience with a 10mm pistol through one of these companies?

Pretty hard to beat the G20. I can convert mine to 5 others cartridges in under a minute. Stands up extremely well to a diet of heavy loads as well.

I too like the 1911 platform and thought the Glock would also work (It did for my wallet:D), however, I found that the grip on these two guns are almost polar opposite to one another. I cannot shoot my Glock worth a damn ( 9 o'clock, 9 o'clock, 9 o'clock :(). Its all in the grip and is really starting to piss me off. Only after 100rds do I start to get back into the swing of things with the Glock. The 1911 is way more forgiving for what I guess is poor grip/ trigger control (I dislike the Glock trigger btw) on my part.
I'm willing to keep struggling with the Glock for now as it goes bang every time and is basically maintenance free, but I prefer the 1911 for accuracy. I also think that I'm most likely doing myself a disservice by switching between the two because the grip is so different.
My .02

I also find that switching between pistols and even more- calibers can throw off my accuracy at the range. I don't have the 10mm but would definitely try it for sure. I do like the 1911 platform better than any Glocks, but this is an individual choice of course.

10mm is a pretty healthy round and you should definitely choose which platform you feel is better for you. Buy the best fit you can in your price range and roll with it. Can always get a caliber kit down the road.

See if you can try a G20sf or a converted G21sf. I have smaller hands so I used to prefer my 1911 but the Glock is such a workhorse it is hard to beat for reliability and using hot reloads. The SF frame is smaller than the regular full sized grip, still larger than a 1911 but far comfier than the standard IMO.

I have both, the Glock 20C and the Colt Delta Elite. My favourite would have to be the 1911. It's more accurate than the Glock, but the Glock can hold it's own. To me, it comes down to the fit in hand, I have a hard time with the Glock 20's grip, it's to wide for my hands. I thought it was going to be similar to the Glock 22, but it's not. So the Colt wins for me. But I would sure be curious about that Tanfoglio "L" in 10mm.

I am definitely starting to lean to the 1911 as well. I have an FNP 45 and that grip is just a little too fat for me. The 1911 has always seemed to fit my hand. I guess right now it really comes down to the 1911 or the Tanfoglio "L" which is sweetly priced at $980 for the basic package at Double Tap.

Is it worth it to drop down in price for a CZ clone? I have heard good stuff about Tanfoglio, but the 1911 is also very upgradeable. What I don't like I can easily fix right?

Plus, admittedly I'm kind of biased to use Jeff Cooper's cartridge in his favorite handgun. Then again the Bren Ten was based off the CZ...

One day I tried a fellow's G17 and G20 at the range. I don't have particularly large hands but the G17 was a touch small and the G20 fit PERFECT.

Still couldn't hit anything worth a damn with the five rounds he gave me from each lol.
