Be gentle, this has probably been discussed, but I was just talking to someone about this.
The .308 enfield builds that were kicking around used M14 mags, and were 10 shot. How come there are'nt dealers flooding the market with these like the 10 rd LAR mags? It's the same idea, would'nt they just have to be marked for the enfield builds? 10 rd mags for the M305 be awesome.

Ya it has been beaten to death , the company is AIA and the mags for their bolt action .308's fit into the m14 rifle. Last I heard their no longer in production, but I don't know for sure. To get one now you'll have to buy an AIA enfield or purchase a mag off the EE for the low price of $200 lol

Cheers

They're not the same magazines....

The rifle is called the AIA M10 rifle. It's a repo of a lee enfeild but it isn't a lee enfeild rifle it just looks like one lots of differences. The magazine well is tapered inward so m14 magazines don't fit in it.

It was made this way for 1 simple matter in Australia if they made it fit m14 magazines it would be considered a military rifle as any rifle that takes the same magazines is considered a military rifle. Any rifle used by a modern military is considered to be banned in Australia really funky gun laws as the m14 used to be legal then they made it illegal when the USA put it back into use in Iraq. So any rifle that takes a m14 magazine in Australia is a military firearm so they made their own design of magazine well and magazine for that 1 rifle only. Try and fit an m14 magazine into an AIA and it won't fit you have to grind out the receiver to make them fit. AIA is still around the cost of the firearms doubled which is why people don't bring them in and add the demand in Australia is high with current wait lists for people to get it you won't see them coming back anytime. They did want to sell them to the Canadian military who turned around and said no.

It's tapered in the front.

you can see in the video image before you start the video that the magazine well has the metal in the front as you can see. The m14 magazines are square in the front and won't fit. You might see them coming in the future as 1 dealer is currently talking to a manfacture and has to see if they can make it or not.

they may not be the exact same mag, but if you watch at the end of the video he shows that it can be used in the m14... i'm also wondering why nobody is making these, unless he modified his m14?

the m14 magazine won't cycle and good luck getting it out once you put it in that sucker gets stuck in there if you tap it in It can click in but the front will be to far down and if it does somehow fit it won't come back out with out allot of force.

The aia magazines fit in the m14 no problem the problem is fitting an m14 magazine into an aia it just doesn't work.

i'm pretty sure the op is talking about using the AIA mags in an m14, and why different manufacturers aren't just making AIA mags and selling them as lee enfield bolt mags so people can buy 10 round mags for the m14 like with the LAR mags, not the other way around

I recently saw a SHOT show video that featured the Mossberg MVP in .223 but also a newer MVP in .308 that appeared to take M14 mags. If Mossberg were to come out with their own magazines with the MVP rifle printed on it I wonder how that might change things. If I understand correctly, the magazine restrictions on semi-automatic centerfire rifles do not apply to bolt actions, though the precedents set with the LAR mags would likely prohibit the use of unplugged M14 mags in the bolt gun.

I wouldnt hold my breath on that, as mossberg sends their MVP's across the border with a 10 round pinned AR mag. Also, I have noticed, it seems that the AIA is the ONLY rifle mag(Detachable) that seems to have that going for it, all the rest of the 10 rounders were designed for pistols. And considering Canada is having a hard time getting the CSA 58 pistols in (Dealers I have heard talk about it pretty much said "#### it") .

Who knows though right? Our government is so illogical you never know what they will / wont allow. However, one good thing, California now has a 10 shot limit for guns, in reality, Mossberg could indeed make a "california/Canada" Mag, but really, they will probably just pin any mag going to canada, cali, and other mag limit states(Some have the same limit as us) at 5.

The fact that it will be advertised as a "Rilfe that takes M14 mags" Will probably sink the idea of us getting 10 shot mags, because think about it, its for a bolt action, what would stop them from sending 20 round mags? The government will say no way, it takes M14 mags, blah blah blah.

The difference with the LAR , is that its a pistol, it HAS a limit. I dunno, trying to make sense of our laws is hard :D

The rifle is described as "able to also use M14 magazines" the mag they come with is purpose built. They come in 10, 20 and maybe in the future 30 rounds. They do not say if their mags will fit and function in a M14.

It's something to keep a eye on for sure!

With first hand experience here (own both the AIA and M14s), M14 magazines will work in the AIA M10 rifle, and they're not that hard to get in or out (takes more force than inserting or removing them from the M14s but nothing excessive.

A 10 round M305 mag is a prohibited device. There is no exception for 'em in the FA. LAR mags aren't made for M305's either.

ive been wondering the same thing as the OP was saying.

Why has no company such as Press Check Ventures, or any magazine company for that matter, come out with an aftermarket magazine designed for the AIA M10 rifle? For those of you who don't know, PCV makes a .50 Beowulf magazine(which can be jammed with .223 and loaded in an AR15) and it would appear that this is the only product they actually manufacture themselves. Presumably there would be a large enough market here in Canada considering the popularity of m14 rifles up here. Does anyone know if this has been tried and shut down by the government? i heard that there were some people who got shut down trying to pass off m14 mags as another sort... read it on CGN somewhere..

I have also been wondering about 3D printing a magazine, does anyone know about the legalities of printing a magazine, whether it be a 5 round semi auto rifle mag or a 10 round bolt action rifle mag...?

1. 10 round M14 designed mags are prohibited.
2. LAR is a type of AR15.
3. AIA Enfield mags are ten round, are not M14/M305 mags, and are legal as built for a bolt action.
4. M14 type mags don't fit AIA Enfields.
5. AIA mags happen to fit M14 style mag wells. So still legal in that use.

A 10 round m305 mag is a prohibited device. A 10, 20, 30, (whatever you want limited only by weight and convenience) round mag designed for a bolt action rifle that just "happens" to fit in an m305/m1a would be 100% legal. There are no mag cap limits on manual action rifles. Wanna get rich in Canada? Design a bolt action that fits the above description, with a slightly modified receiver that will make it tough to accept m305/m1a/m14 mags, but who's "specifically designed" mags do happen to work in the semi auto platform. Then put out a whole mess of different mags for it, all the way up to 50round snail drums, 100round beta C drums. Sell a half dozen rifles, and then get rich selling legal high cap mags.

If someone were to make a .308 pistol (you know, someone with the wrists of Schwarzenegger), and purpose built a 10 round mag for it, that would be legal, it would also still be legal if it "happened" to fit and cycle in an m305/m1a.

The AIA mags are an example of a "legal" 10 round mag for the m305/m1a. The mag is genuinely slightly different than a true m305/m1a mag, but it still works.

Legally, it is the mag that's restricted by law, not the rifle itself. The mag is governed by the device it was designed for, regardless of whatever it might happen to fit into.

The LAR-15 (.223) Pistol has mags regulated to pistol size, ie: 10 Rounds, and will happily fit in any AR15 rifle, or any rifle with a STANAG compliant lower receiver. I don't think anyone was suggesting that they would work in the m305, just citing them as an example of a workaround to the mag cap limits.

This is not my interpretation of the law, it's the courts and even the Mounty Brass's interpretation of the law:

4. Magazines designed for one firearm but used in a different firearm

The maximum permitted capacity of a magazine is determined by the kind of firearm it is designed or manufactured for use in and not the kind of firearm it might actually be used in. As a consequence, the maximum permitted capacity remains the same regardless of which firearm it might be used in.

Example:
The Marlin model 45 (Camp Carbine) rifle chambered for 45 Auto caliber uses magazines designed and manufactured for the Colt 1911 handgun, therefore the seven round and eight round capacities are permitted. A similar example is the 10 round capacity magazine for the Rock River Arms LAR-15 pistol, regardless of the kind of firearm it is actually used in.

I have wondered how come no one has brought in a small batch of restricted M14 along with a couple of shipping containers of Norico 10 round pistol magazines

Hmm, yet my M14 mags fit my AIA No4. You know those crappy 5 rounders for the M14? All you have to do is drumel about a millimeter off the bottom of the lug and they fit into the AIA just fine. Fall out real easy too when changing mags.
