Hi,
My next rifle will be to shoot past 1000 m. I'm doing my homework on differents forums, but I'd like your opinion :
For now, due to budget restriction, my choice is a Rem 700P, but still unsure about the caliber. My personnel preferences are, in this order : 300RUM, 300WM, 338L, 7mm.
Any advice ? I don't care about the differences before 800m, I want the maximum potential for the max distance; and I'm shooting paper target ...:D

Thanks

From you list of cartridges, here is my findings.

A buddy has a 300RUM and we have found that it just burns more powder and kicks harder for a marginal velocity gain. His 308 kicks it for LR accracy at 1000 yds!

300WinMag, great cartridge, IMO. Has won many LR competitions.

338 Lapua, there are better out there that burn less powder and get higher velocities. Here's is one IMO... 338 Swamp Donkey Magnum, http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php?t=66130

7mm Mag, may have a edge balistically over 30 cals.

The large calibers have the edge in another way, you can see the dirt fly better with a 338 than you do a 7mm and over 1000 yds, you need this since even if you know your elevation needed, you have a lot of wind from you to say 1 mile. Even a light 5 km wind a 1 mile is 8 to 10 feet of wind and that is with a really good bullet cooked up.
