Bought a 305s and am tinkering it into a decent shooter....barrel indexing/new gas block/new BM59 sights/flash hider removed and brake installed

I am considering another 305 ,...cuz I want to build a sniper and a short lil thumper.......and of course ones not enough either! LOL:d

I'm looking at a m305 22in that is mounted in a USGI glass stock, wearing a M14.ca DR optic mount and an aftermarket stainless spring guide rod and gas piston.
The rifle is stock otherwise.
It NEEDS a barrel indexing as it is def off as well as the flash hider is wobbly loose..I will very likely cut the barrel and recrown and externally thread it imperially to afford an american brake application.
Can't easily determine the headspace although am trying to get some fired brass from the current owner to measure.

The rifle has 1000rds of surplus thru it.
Is this a significant amount for the bolt and or barrel? ...as in should I start with a new 305 or is this not a problem?

The rifle as equipped above is priced at $500 privately.

Thx in advance for any feedback.

1000 rounds is nothing, that barrel is chrome lined. Weird that the flash hider is loose, but it's easy to tighten and if you're cutting and crowning it anyway no worries. If you're already equipped to handle the indexing and if there's nothing else wrong with it, $500 seems like a good price considering you get the stock and optics mount thrown in.

Was more curious if the bolt/action was an issue with the rds...not worried about the barrel so much...in fact 1000rds prolly nicely took care of the burrs Norc left in there!! LOL
Is barrel stretch an issue with these guns? It already certainly has a generous headspace to start with?

If the bolt and receiver have held up for 1000 rounds they'll most likely be fine for many many thousands more. Not sure about the barrel stretch thing.

Norc receivers and bolts are well built, no worries there in my opinion. If you do need an extra Norc full length barrel shoot me a pm, 1000 rounds you should still be good but figured I'd throw it out there if you need it. My barrel is new, no rounds down it, fresh from a swap out.

$500 for a rifle you have to fix is excessive. Up to you if you think a Norinco receiver is worth that much. However, 1,000 rounds won't bother the bolt or receiver.

It all depends on what you compare it to. Not really if the counterpart of it is a SA at 1500$+...

My advise would be to spend 99 bucks more and buy a new one from Marstars. I have one of the newer offerings from Marstars, Norinco (last year) and I have none of the problems with barrel indexing and so on. Yes 1000 rounds is nothing but why put up with repairs when for 99 bucks more you can get a brand new one plus GST, HST, Shipping. Still though U pays yur money and ya takes yur chances with a ChiCom made product. I do think however, that Marstars has told Norinco to only send them in spec rifles. What say the rest of you out there in M305 Land?

$500 is a great price!
That's including the M14.ca scope mount, the op rod spring guide and the USGI fiberglass stock.
Get that puppy indexed and tightened and he's good to go!!!

The barrel of my "SmithFeildSadlac-a-JAE'Norcenstine" is one of only 4 org components in my 2008 M14, it's round count has to be somewhere north of 7K rounds and it still shoots like a dream with little to no signs of significant ware.

Enjoy it as that's a good deal for what ya get. However, they can be hit and miss (excuse the pun) sometimes:)

I recently upgraded mine too with a ton of aftermarket stuff from m14.ca the thing is a tack driver! Just finished my 500 case of Barnaul yesterday. I get the odd case stuck in the action but it's steel case ammo. What I did was put a casm gen II mount a bushnell 4.5-18x40 scope with Leopold 1" rings. M14.ca spring ring op guide, tac pro Velcro cheek riser and a Harris bi pod. I love it! Still want a muzzle brake

You must have awfully big tacks in your neck of the woods :p

As much as I love these rifles I've never seen one that I'd call a tack driver except in comparison to other M1A platform rifles and other main battle rifles.

I'm comparing it to my other guns is all, best I've been able to shoot, although everything else has iron sights. I can still shoot very well at 100 yards with irons
