kell2784, I shoot a 7 Mystic which is my version of the 280AI. I very much like it. Does the same thing the 7RSAUM does.
If the barrel is up to it, sub MOA at 1km with the AMax is no issue. About to test some 180gr Bergers. There is growing interest in the 7mm for F(O) now that there is a tangible ballistic benefit in the 180gr Bergers.
Aussies shoot a 284 in F class (more coming in the US and UK) and some 1KM BR shooters in the UK use the 7WSM and have set some national records. No where near as popular as the 30's and 6.5's but that has more to do with viable bullets and recoil then performance.
For F class, 2007 will be a telling year. There is no doubt that ballistics are a smidge better with the fast 7mm but recoil is also substantially higher. As is barrel heat. Will it matter in real world comp? Time will tell.
Personally, for 600 and out, my 6.5 Mystic will do all that I can want and any extra ballistics will be lost due to shooting fatigue.
Obtunded, the 6.8SPC may very well end up as an unloved orphan. For a short range F class cartridge, it really will not keep up with the likes of the 6BR and even the 223. For a LR BR, case is way too small with no viable bullets. The 115gr MK is not bad for getting bad guys but will not stand up to match shooting in the wind.
For that type of bullet weight, I would go 30 BR and have some amazing bullets. In a larger case 6mm, the 115gr will run circles around the SPC. The SPC might just make a great 6mm case?????
I don't even think you can shoot it in service rifle as it is not adopted yet.
Not something I would spend much time with right now. A better bet would be the 6.5 Grendel or BR. Some have even shot the 7Br with 120gr BT with excellent results.
