I have a 3200 bushnell and i run out of elevation after 700 yards or so . what scope in the same price range or is there somthing i can do different to make it work. It's on a tikka tactical 308.

I run a 20 MOA base and Elite 6500 on a 6mmBR. I have no trouble getting to 1,000yd.

I also run a 20 MOA base on a 338 Lapua Mag (different scope). 800m with 250gn requires less than 4 MRad in elevation when zeroed at 200m.

I would say it depends on the size of target that you intend to engage at this distance. The base is more important to achieve enough elevation from your scope to reach this far. Increased target resolution provided by a more expensive scope would become increasingly important as target size and target visual distinction relative to background decrease.

 What does a poorish guy/gal look for in a scope for this sort of distance? Please don't say a hot leupold.

Get the Burris Zee Rings with the offset inserts. Up to 20 moa offset in the 1" rings. Also what Chihuahua said... inclined base.

You can also combine say .020 & .010 offsets. They may be thousands of an inch rather than MOA though if you're trying to calculate the effect on elevation.

The inserts also have other benefits (offset for windage adjustment, not mark scope, compensate for poorly aligned/non-lapped rings...)

I shoot a 25x S&B scope with the reticle in the first focal plane on my Lapua Mag. It is designed to shoot to 2,000m according to the manufacturer. I have only been able to shoot it to 800m so far, however consistent hits into an area much smaller than 1m have been achieved (some groups in very strong gusting wind).

If shooting at varied long range distances, you may want to give consideration to a scope with reticle in the first focal plane, as changes in magnification will not affect bullet point of impact.

With regard to the Elite 6500, I find that resolution from 25x to 30x deteriorates significantly, so I stay to a max of 25x on this scope. This magnification has worked fine to 1000yd.

So, 20 moa base (inclined) or more, and say, 32x mag? Think of a 3 foot gong as a target...

???

FFP scopes just range (mill) at any magnifcation. Modens scopes with a varible will not change bullet impact.

I have used my Nikon Buckmaster 4-14 to take my .308 out to 1000 yards. I have it on a -20 Farrel base. I'm just short on elevation at 1000 yards, but I use mildots to make it up.

Do the math, work your hold and it it'll get you on target.
