At the Sidley Mountain 1000 metre shoot June 21st and 22nd I saw Ron Hiller shoot a 3 shot 1.457" group. You'll notice the middle hole in the photo is larger, that's because you are actually looking at 2 bullet holes one of which was Ron's sighting shot. That means it's actually a 4 shot group measuring 1.457".

Our previous record group was an outstanding 1.875" shot by Pat Smith in 2005 and we thought that may never be broken. Ron Hiller often proves me wrong. His 1000M three shot group of 1.457" was pure magic - see the attached photo. At 100 yards that wouldn't look like much but at 1000M (1094 yards) - wow.

Many other great scores & groups were fired and the 1st & 2nd place winners are listed here. Complete results will follow later.

UNLIMITED - BEST SCORE
1st Cliff Young 30-2x
2nd Ron Hiller 30-1x

UNLIMITED - BEST GROUP
1st Ron Hiller 1.457"
2nd Joe Oliveira 3.250" (Joe fired this group with his Hunter Class unmodified Tikka in 7mm Rem Mag)

HUNTER - BEST SCORE
1st Ron Hiller 29-0x (winner by shoot off)
2nd Joe Oliveira 29-0x

STANDING - UNSUPPORTED
1st Cliff Young 12/30
2nd Pat Smith 11/30

1000M Group

Hi Obtunded, your close, it was a 6 BR, with a 8-1 krieger barrel, but I was using 108 bergers, not the SMK 107's, although they shoot well in this gun too, I used the SMK's in Mission when I shot the 81 out of 90 x's.
Gotta love them Krieger barrels, in fact I'll be getting a hold of soon to order another one, not that I need one yet, just over 800 rounds though this one and it just seems to be getting better and better, just gotta have a spare, you know ! in case I decide to get serious about this shooting stuff, :) .

Stevie boy, If I were you, I would just leave that one alone buddy! You can walk away with your honour and dignity intact!!!

Goin' to the Farky?

...is your wife? :)

Yup! We will both be there! Mark cornered me last weekend when I was in town and got me signed up. Good thing too!! Got another piece of iron coming but won't let Ron see that one!! Talk to you later. Steve

In 2000 the Bisley Millenium matches included a F Class program. I was shooting TR, but wife took her F class 6.5-284 rifle and shot the matches. A Canadian shooting a 6BR led the aggregate all week. I was shocked because it had never ocurred to me that a 6BR would shoot 1000 yards.

I don't recall the name of the shooter. He was from the West, I think.

It's hard to get recorded group measurements in F-Class type shooting sanctioned matches. You're always shooting in pairs and nobody is allowed to shoot single string anymore except maybe at the ORA matches.

The best way to get group records are from the Benchrest shooters.

Smallest Recorded Group

Hi Canukhunter,

I didn't ask about F class, any class, just courious after I shot my 1.457" 4 shot ( one sighter and 3 for score ) benchrest group at 1000 Meters at our 1000 Meter Shoot in June. I was very pleased with my new gun and that group.
Thanks, Ron Hiller

Hi Steve, a new XR huh, what caliber ? hummmm, I wonder if Wendy is bringing her cheque book again :) . Hows it shooting or have you tried it yet ?
Yes, the gun that shot the 1.457" group at 1000 Meters did belong to Steve, but he did willing sell it to me ! Which I am ever so greatful.
Ron

.223 Rem with a 1 in 7 twist Heavy Palma barrel 28" long for a 75 to 80 grain A-Max bullet. Please tell her to leave her cheque book at home, I have gotten toooooooo much crap from everyone for selling you that one!! Didn't help when you were sending around the pictures of your groups. Everytime you did, I got about 10 phone calls!!! Ian still won't let me forget it!! Steve
