Just wondering what everybody is using on their Savages. I have a Barska for temporary duty and am now looking to step it up to something better. I already have the Badger 20MOA base and Nightforce rings. What does everybody have and how do you like it?

If the mods want to move this to optics I understand - I just thought it would suit the Precision forum due to the specific rifle.

I have a Weaver K6 matte on mine, sporting Butler Creek flip ups. I really like it, the price was right too. :p :D

I am wanting to put a Bushnell 3200 10X40 on it though... maybe this summer.

Hi Jasonsmack,

With your 20 MOA base it sounds like you're planning on doing some long range shooting. As for the scope, it simply comes down to how much money you want to spend. If you'd like to keep it fairly cheap, I would recommend the Bushnell 3200 fixed 10x with mildot. I've shot with this scope as far out as 800 yards and the glass is nice and clear. It's the best bang for the buck in my opinion. On my 10 FP, I had a Nikko Sterling Sniper in fixed 10x/ Mildot/ 30 mm tube. Equivalent to that would be the Tasco Super Sniper. There are actually a couple for sale on the EE forum right now. You can get into bigger bucks and give Leupold a whirl. They are excellent scopes but you'll pay for it. While some may disagree, I prefer the fixed 10x scopes. They'll do you for 10 yards or 1000 yards. I have a couple Savage rifles and the scopes I mentioned have worked great for me. Again, it comes down to your personal needs and preference. Hopefully this helps. glocker

My 10FP-LE2B is sitting in the safe with a Bushnell Elite 4200 6-24X40, a 0MOA Ken Farrell base, 1970 vintage all-steel, 4 screw Tasco rings and a 6"-9" Bench Rest Harris bipod. The bits and pieces are still in boxes waiting to be assembled and taken out to the range to test their legs on some paper.
Time is what I need the most....Oh, and some ammo.
I was recently bitten by the MILSURP bug so I may be lax in getting the 10fp out before I find a nice minty Lee-Enfield, K98 or Krag.

buckhunter - You get what you pay for as far as the Barska goes. I have the 10-40 x 50 Swat unit and it is not the right scope for my gun. My biggest beef with the unit is the fov and the big black dark ring that blocks nearly half of the area of the eyepiece. It is kind of like looking through a Toonie with the center knocked out. I have had a couple of cheap Tasco scopes that did not seem to make good use of the area of the eyepiece in the same way. It is not all bad though. It is fairly clear, focuses easy, very sturdy, turrets feel responsive and it holds zero good. It is just coming off the gun because I am having a tough time finding my targets - even at 10 power. Maybe the Varmint version has some improvements.

I'm just using a crappy Tasco Varmit 2.5-10

I shot a friend's Savage Model 10 LE 20" in .308 Win with plain stock with a Tasco Varmint 2.5-10x42mmAO scope on it... not a bad combo IMHO... 5 shots @ 100 yards with IVI 150 gr SP's...

I have a Tasco Varmint (I think 6-24x) on a M305 and I think it was a good deal for the price I paid and it has a permanent home there. I would just like something "better" for the LE2B. I am really leaning towards a Nightforce. I have one on another gun and like it. It just seems wierd (not wrong just wierd) to me that I would spend more on glass than what I spent on the gun. The Barska performs Ok for target shooting. I got a couple of <1" groups with the outfit on Sunday with factory loaded ammo. I want to change it out due to time it takes me to find a live target with the Barska.

IOR Valdada on this one.

Unertl 24X on this one.

MY son's BT112 in .223 usually has either irons ( central rear, tiger front) or an IOR Valdada also.

You'll notice that the 6-26 Elite has a shockingly small amount of elevation adjustment in it. If you're looking to get out to 5 or 600 yards you'll likely run out of elevation adjustment, especially with a flat base.

Hi Big Ugly Man,
Thanks for the information....I figure I would start at 100 yards and shoot a ton before I went to 200 yards. Once comfortable with 200 yards I would look into 300 yards and so on and so on. If I ever get to the point where I can shoot LR I will probably buy those Burris rings that use the plastic inserts.
