Background: I recently started loading 10mm. I began by deciding I wanted a hotter load than storebought (duh). I had the Hrnady 9th Edition loading book, and I had read good things on BlueDot, so I bought it. Looking at the Hornady book, 10mm - 155grn loads listed are, and if you are familiar with the Hornady book you know how they provide data... several load weights before showing the max load in a red box columed under the speed of the possible round.
Anyway, on page 961 is the 155grn loads, and I am indeed using Hornady XTP's that they list for. So starting with this cartridge I look at the Blue Dot row and it shows a max of 12.9 grns at 1450fpd... I don't want to start at max so use the basic 10% rule to scale back to start. On the page is listed 12.0 grns at 1350 fps. That's basically the 10% so I started loading to 12.0 grns and now have about 600 rounds loaded for this coming summer (with CCI primers and Starline New Brass).
Anyway, my issue is I picked up the Lee 2nd Edition manuel and on page 552 under the 155 XTP section is the 155 Blue dot load listed at MAX 12.0 grns at 1291 fps. Well that's a full load from that book, and so that started me wondering how 2 books can list so different. I started looking around and any other source with Blue Dots at 12.0 grns is max, including Alliant, though they only list Blue Dot 155 on Speed Gold Dots. Several other sources list at 12 or lower for max.
My question is should I be concerned as my load is at MAX for every source other than Hornady. Has anyone shot this load? Is there something I'm missing?? Can any other 10mm loaders give me a hand here??
Confused but still CreamySmooth.
