Did some loads with Hornady ELD-X 178gr
Distance 100m

Rifle savage 10TR in 308, factory stock with Coretac solutions muzzle brake
Vortex Crossfire II with AO 4-12x40
Brass mixed
Primer, LRP Winchester
42-42.1 grains of Varget

Grouping is around 0.9 inches to a little over an inch.

The rifle is capable of doing better, I need to better practice :)

The temp yesterday was around -2 deg c with some snow falling some very very low breeze.

To be honest, this is the best that I've shot with this rifle ever since I got it.

Not knocking it either but the Crossfire 2 scopes are a very low end scope, throw a viper pits on their and the clear glass and reticle will also help tighten things up.

However for a rifle scope package under 1K 1moa is nothing to complain about... guys spend 2-3k and can’t get there.

Also big +1 for 5 round groups for testing ammo especially.

Was using cam pro 147s before and it was all over the place for this rifle. The ELD-X is a nice change. Bought a box of Hornady match 168gr yesterday and will try how those fair. Thx for the suggestion for 5 shot groups.

I believe you are loading light, normal loads for 178's usually have a max load of around 45 grains. have you done a full work up or did you randomly chose 42-42.1 ?

My best loads with my Savage 10TR, was with 42.10gr of Varget shooting Hornady BTHP match 178gr.
I have since upgraded my rifle, but still using the 10TR action.

Good job OP.
Like suggested 5 round groups is the way to go.
May want to shoot at 200M instead of 100M also.
I found with my 175SMKs , a load that behaves well at 100M does not necessarily behave well at 200-900M, and my 200-900M load does not behave well at 100M. Still sub moa, but when i go further it goes to sub 1/2 moa. I try to avoid 100M since, just use it for zero confirmation.

By the way, my factory 10TR barrel, loved having copper fouling in it.
So don’t clean it to often!

Mixed brass will not get you optimal results for sure. First thing I would change. A good chrono will tell you why mixed headstamp can’t get you cloverleaves. You probably have a node a little higher in fps.
