I have 2 11-87 20ga Youth shotguns I got for 2 youngest sons. They both have the same issues with the 3" magnum waterfowl loads. When fired, the bolt locks up or gets jammed in the receiver. After researching, it was recommended to remove the barrel seal. On one of them this fix seems to work but the other keeps jamming. The one that will work without the barrel seal, ejects the empty hull 10-12’ away which tells me there’s still not enough recoil absorption and probably will do the same as the other eventually. I did phone Remington and they said that I was not supposed to remove the barrel seal and that I should send it for repair. It seems to me that the recoil spring would be to light. They both function flawlessly with barrel seal and light target loads. Any suggestions or experiences with this? Thanks.

I suspect you bought those shotguns used?????

Some folks used those guns for skeet and trap shooting and replaced the springs.

Removing the gas seal isn't a good idea. The theory behind it is that gas used for recoil will bleed off instead.

If you're going to shoot 3in magnum shells, get the proper springs installed and save yourself a lot of trouble.

The only other fix is to shoot 2 3/4 loads exclusively.

I had a Rem 1100 with the same issue. Proper spring made it well but it wouldn't eject trap loads.

One was bought used and the other brand new. The used one will not work at all with the 3" but the new one will but ejects way too far and suspect I will eventually the same issues. How can I get and stiffer springs? That seems to be the solution that makes the most sense.

Wolf Springs.

They're out of the US but will ship to Canada. Google is your friend, just Google their site and type in your information.

I would try blocking one of the barrel gas ports with a small piece of wood (toothpick). Sounds like too much gas getting to the piston with 3" shells. Easy to remove the piece of toothpick when you want. It has worked for me in the past where some target shooters have enlarged the gas port/s for reliable action with very light target loads.

Best advice you can get at this point...

He is mixed up it is the barrel o ring remington is talking about. I posted this already when I asked to clean the recoil springs Cheers

We are talking two different things. I am talking o ring seal and you the barrel seal activator which blocks the flow of gasses to the relief vents so you have enough pressure to function with "light" loads.Yes it has to come out for 3" rounds . Is the o ring factory remington and do you have it assembled as the pic
