I have a 21" rifle sight barrel, I bought off of a CGN'r which had the rear sight removed. I have now purchased a set of LPA sights and would like to remove the front sight lug.

Are they just soldered on?

Is there a SOP for this job?

Is this difficult to do without heating the barrel to excess? Do I just focus a propane torch on the front lug?
 
They are silver soldered on. If you want to remove it by heating, you will have to heat it red hot. A propane torch will not do. One of the small MAP gas torches may do, oxy-acet will do.

If you dont have the equipment you culd spend the time and carefullyy grind it off. That way you won't hurt the barrel finish around the sight.

I will probably mill it off and grind it. Unless I go all out and parkerize the whole barrel. thanks again.
