11 year labour of love

11 years ago my firstborn son was turning 6. I started building a Nerf gun for him, but ran into difficulty with it. Soon he was too old for it anyway, and needed a real rifle instead. Over the years I would occasionally pull it out and tinker with it. Fast forward 11 years and my second son is turning 6. I finally finished it!
Black walnut stock, rust blued metalwork, and every piece machined from scratch. I wanted to checker it, but then it probably would have ended up not being ready until son#3(I have a lot of kids).

I think new accounts are limited to what the can upload. You can upload to https://postimages.org/ and click 'share', copy text from 'hotlink for forums' and paste it in as a reply.

Nope, that's not it. To post pictures directly to this site, you have to be a paid member.

The rest of us, use any free or cheap picture hosting software that we can. Photobucket used to be my Go-to, but they tried to get all money-grubby, with what started as a free service.

Upload your pictures to the site of your choice, copy then paste the "img code" to the posting here on CGN

postimages is free (been using it for years) and the picture quality is way better than photobucket... no big ad in the middle of your picture...

I figured it couldn’t be a piece of bubba junk. I offered to post some pictures and I think it is very impressive.Looks like a happy young man.

That’s awesome! Fantastic job on the gun. Like the red cocking indicator and the long easy to use bolt handle. Beauty job on the stock too.

That is just to cool!! Your grandkids will be playing with that one too! Any plans on restocking a rifle? You’ve got the knack!!

very nice looking!
how does it work? you cycle the bolt and by doing so you #### a plunger in the barrel, then muzzle load a nerf dart?

If you were to sell those, many would buy including me! Between four sons, we have DOZENS of Nerf guns, brand and generic. Would love one that could actually be an heirloom. Bravo, sir!

Yes, running the bolt pulls a plunger back and cocks it, Nerf dart in the muzzle.
I will say that there are a lot more nuances to the setup of a Nerf gun than I ever imagined. Barely slept the night before his birthday, trying to make it work. It barely could make 10 feet. Then, about 3 hours before a dozen boys showed up for the party, I picked up one of the kid's Nerf guns and played with it for a few minutes. I noticed a feature in the "chamber" that had escaped me before. Back out to the shop to strip it down again and do some more machining on it. Wifey was going through the roof!
It would shot about 30 feet after the final modification.
