So my older friend decided to leave his cave and bought a fully-rifled deer barrel for his 2 3/4" Remington 1100.

The shotgun itself has never given him problems before, it has cycled perfectly using all types of shotshells. When he shot a Remington and a Winnie sabot slug however, BOTH failed to eject!

Is this a problem unique to sabot shells or do you think the shottie is at fault?

Nothing wrong with the shotgun.... unique to the sabots... a different pressure curve. The barrel gas ports could probably be altered so sabots would function but then the action would be worked too hard with regular ammo...

Thanks for your response guntech!

If that's the case, why does Remington even sell replacement barrels for their 1100's ? My friend has a non-magnum frame that he used the barrel with, so I assume he can't use 3" shells with it, even though the barrel itself is rated for 3 inchers. If it's normal for 2 3/4" shells to not eject (unless tinkered with) then I must head back to BPS and try to ask for a refund...

If it still isn't cycling properly after a good cleaning and ensuring that the rings and O-rings are in good working order, he could carefully open up the gas port(s) a small bit at a time until it's cycling properly. Increase by a 1/32"nd at a time.

Since it's a fully rifled slug barrel, he's not likely going to use it for geese or grouse, so don't worry about any loads other than sabots.

Thanks for the sound advice Grouseman, he had the gun checked by a smithy and after a good cleaning and magazine ring (?) replacement it's now good to go!

m12whatever, you're sense of sarcasm is uncanny! In the future I think you're responses require a few more exclamation marks.
