1100 Yard Moose Kill

There was actually a 3rd shooter, in the foreground / off-camera / to the right...

Notice the way the mooses legs curl back, and to the left... Back, and to the left... Back, and to the left...

:D

please, let's not lower the sport by referring to this as hunting, it is long range shooting at a live target nothing more or less.
as has been said oft times before, many animals are wounded and lost at under a 100 yards to just a few hundred yards, let alone Kandahar sniping distances.
Yes the equipment can do it now, where before it was highly unlikely and yes shooters can perform such shots, but don't try to convince me that it's perfectly ethical for taking such a shot.
This type of stuff should be posted on 'Zombie' threads only!!!

If the equipment can do it, and the hunter can do it, I see no ethical issue with taking a long shot. The only people that complain about shots like that are people that can't make the shot themselves.

It was a legal shot at a game animal...it is hunting. Its up to the hunter to know how far he can shoot based on his abilities as well as environmental factors.

To say "please, let's not lower the sport by referring to this as hunting" is childish and judgemental based on your own personal beliefs...Its the same thing the anti's do when it comes to your guns, they don't like guns, so you shouldnt have them. Now you want to tell a guy how far away he is allowed to shoot from, and if you breach that distance, you are no longer hunting??? Thats retarded.

Not sure where it was hit but appears to have severed connections from the central nervous system immediately; hit, went down like a sack of potatoes, few remaining muscle spasms and still.

No idea on hunting but that was a rather impressive shot.

Ethical, well just my opinion but if I knew I could hit something from X yards away without fail and I knew the anatomy of the target well enough for shot placement it wouldn't be too unreasonable to take a shot from that distance. This didn't 'wound' the animal it dropped it, there is a difference so I don't think ethics applies here.

Not a question of legality or technicality. More like a matter of balance of probabilities and success ratio.

For this one successful u-tube shot, there must be a few hundred (thousands?) shots a year that miss. They don't make it to u-tube, but the results often make it to some farmer’s property or somebody's front lawn to die in agony.

The reason it is unethical is that moose only needs to take a step. As in BOOM............................................................................................................................Plop. AWWW Gut Shot.

How can you control that variable?

This is the same reason I hesitate to shoot anything past 40 yards with a bow.

We will all just have to agree to disagree. Ethics are a personal thing but we are judged on them.

....and one more time d:h:

You will note by my thread count and join date that I average less than a couple dozen posts a year. I never saw the original thread. Sorry

I spend my time shooting and hunting.

I suppose if I had time to post a thousand or more times I would have known about the original and not done something so stupid as to comment on this post and offend you.

I'm sure the original starter of the thread feels very sorry as well.
