Hey all. I am relatively new to reloading and inherited a varied store of reloading goods from a late relative. I myself have almost all the standard .30 cals out there. .30-06, .308, 30-30, 300 WM, and before now I have always used factory ammo for them. In this collection of reloaded goods, I found 400 rounds of 110gr .308 SP bullets. While I like excessive speed everyone else, I am adverse to reloading any of my .30 cals with such a light bullet (I always associated such a light tip with a .30 Carbine round). And before anyone says 30-30, it's in a Win 94, so no go due to pointed tips.

Thanks

I've experimented with 110 gr and 130 gr bullets for varminting with my 30-06 before I got a dedicated varmint rifle. I found them to be very destructive, but not very accurate.

110 grain .30 cal bullets are indeed intended for the .30 carbine. However, you can work up a load for any .30 calibre rifle. Look in your manual for a load. Mind you, they may not shoot very accurately due to the rifling twist.

I've used 110gr VMAX's, 125gr Speer TNT's and 85gr Hornady XTP's in my 308 for varminting with great success. They all did 1.5" or better, and the Speers did 3/4".

I'd never use any of them for anything larger than a coyote.

I found a couple of boxes of speer 100 grain plinkers at a surplus shop, I got them mainly just to fire form some 30-06 and 308 brass, quite acurate in the '06 about a 1 inch group at 100 yards, the 308 was a different story, 4 inch group at 100, madly off in all directions at 200... but, they serve the purpose that I got them for.

I use 110gr V-max in my 308win varmint gun accuracy is sub moa out to 300yrd's this is a devastating combo on varmints out to that range. Got grounhogs, rabbits, fox, coyotes... in your neiborhood? thats the bullet.

I load 110 gr vmax in my 30-06 with RL15. 3300+ fps and good accuracy. havent shot anything with it but paper though

Why would you be adverse to loading up 400 "free" bullets to either pop paper or mash mammals..........

110 spitzers were not invented to be loaded in an m-1 carbine they were introduced so that .30 cal. reloaders had varmint etc. bullets when most people only had one main rifle for everything they wanted to hunt.....

As per those gents previously posting on their views/success's with 110 gr spitzer will add my findings.......

30-30 win 94 110 speer/ sierra/hornadys..............2800 fps with accuracy..
308 win. 3200 fps with same 3 brands.... 1 inch groups and less...
30/06....3275 fps.....same/same.............same accuracy....

.....you could always trade or sell them if your 110 gr. challenged

hs 4570............your mileage may vary

I wasn't sure if 110gr would perform well for target use. As I had also stated, until recently, I used off the shelf ammo for my .30 cal's. I have NO experience with such a light bullet as I only have used deer/moose loadings (150-220gr).

I never claimed to know the origins of the bullets (aka why they where produced) as someone obviously decided they had a need for them. Luckily I do not fall into the one gun fits all catagory, or unlucky if you consider all the different brass I have to collect....

I'm tempted to sell them as I have a .223 for the furry rodent families. I may keep a box for "tinkering" loads in my .308 however. I'm still undecided.

I have loaded 110's in my 30-06 and it is a good combo. You should see what they do to a crow @ 50 yds:D

I shoot 110 cmj's in just about all my 30 cal guns, 30-30, 30:06, 308, 7.5x54 etc...

Hell, I've even used them in my 7.62x54r..

I use them as cheap bullets for target practice. They cost me about $0.06 each...
